“Not gonna keep your promise?” Lydia raised an eyebrow.
Milana’s face was stiff, her feelings plain as day. Did she really need to spell it out? A thousand bows—she’d end up in the hospital.
“Lydia, I’m still your adoptive mother. I raised you for eighteen years. I’ve never asked for anything from you, and now you want me to bow a thousand times? Aren’t you afraid of karma coming for you?”
Lydia’s laugh was sharp. “Let’s not pretend you actually raised me for eighteen years. If you’re bold enough to bet, you should be bold enough to pay up. Don’t worry, I’m not asking you to bow to me. Go to the church, give a thousand sincere bows, and thank God for saving Luke’s life. If you really can’t do it, no one’s forcing you.”
Milana had nothing left to say. There was no getting out of it.
Watching Lydia turn to leave, Milana hurried after her, eyeing her suspiciously. “Lydia, the housekeeper called this morning. She said someone from a school came by and you got a perfect score. Is that for real?”
Milana couldn’t believe it. She knew exactly what Lydia’s grades were like. She and Jenson had been driven crazy by her test scores and constant fighting. Lydia getting a perfect score? It was not gonna happen.
“That’s none of your business,” Lydia replied, not bothering to look back.
Milana curled her lip. “I knew it was impossible. So, what did you actually get? Sandy scored 680, by the way.”
Lydia just shrugged. “Too bad. That’s still not enough for Oakwood or Capital College.”
Milana was speechless. This girl was always so sharp, always knew how to twist the knife. If Sandy had just scored five more points, she would have made the cutoff for her dream schools. Now, both were out of reach.
Dr. Hady was just about to visit Luke and Sandy when he spotted Lydia and Milana in the hallway. His eyes lit up.
“Lydia, you’re here.”
Lydia nodded. “How are Luke and Sandy doing?”
Dr. Hady handed her the charts. “Sandy’s numbers are all good. She just needs another week of rest, and if she wants, she can go home. Luke’s not quite stable yet. He’ll need to stay in the hospital for more observation.”
“It’s fine. Let her say whatever she wants. How’s Mr. Norwood doing?”
“Everything looks good.”
“Alright.”
After leaving Dr. Hady, Lydia headed toward Mr. Norwood’s room, but her phone started buzzing. It was Sue calling.
“What’s up?”
“Lydia! You need to check online right now. Connor’s arguing with trolls again.”
Lydia blinked. What?

the next upload is exciting. i cant wait....
Every chapter is missing a sentence from the end of every chapter. It’s frustrating to try guess what’s missing or said...
