The blond guy frowned. “How much do you want? A thousand?”

The long-haired girl immediately clung to his arm. “Paul, they've already made five hundred. Why would you give them a thousand?”

Paul grinned at her. “Relax, babe. As long as you’re having fun, what’s a thousand bucks?”

They’d decided last minute to catch a movie and, of course, all the good seats were gone. After looking around, they noticed Lydia and Connor were sitting right in the center. It’s only two of them, so swapping would be easy.

“If you’re that rich, why not just rent out the whole theater?” Lydia shot back, sarcasm in her voice.

Paul just scoffed. “We like watching with a crowd. It’s more fun, you know?”

“Get up. Go back to your own seats,” Lydia said, not even bothering to hide her annoyance. What kind of luck was this, running into jerks like them at the movies?

Paul’s face darkened when Lydia told them to leave. “I’m warning you, don’t be ungrateful. A thousand bucks. Take it and get lost.”

He yanked out five more bills, waving them in Lydia’s face with obvious disgust. “Don’t be stupid about this. I know people who work here.”

Lydia laughed. “You could show up with a hundred grand and you still wouldn’t get these seats.”

Paul rolled his eyes. “You’re full of it. A hundred grand? Dream on.”

Paul’s date, a famous influencer called Lola, laughed right along with him. “Do we look like idiots? Who would pay a hundred grand just to swap seats for a movie? You must really need the cash.”

“I’ll say it one more time. Leave.”

Paul was completely stunned. For a second, the world spun, and then he realized he was flat on his back on the floor, staring up at the seats. It finally hit him that he’d just been kicked out of his chair by a girl.

Rage shot through him, burning him up from the inside. He scrambled to his feet, pointing at Lydia, his finger shaking with anger. “You crazy bitch! How dare you kick me?”

“Oh my god, Paul, are you okay?” Lola shrieked, then shot Lydia a deadly glare. Her voice went shrill and dramatic. “Are you out of your mind? Do you know who you just messed with? You’re dead!”

For the record, Paul was actually Lola’s top fan. They’d met up today for a quick hookup, also hoping to enjoy a movie together. Neither of them expected to run into someone who wasn’t scared of them.

Lydia’s eyes were icy and sharp. “You should worry about him and who he’s messing with.”
