“Oh, so he’s just going to leave you all hanging to save his own career?”
Benjamin hesitated for a moment before finally caving in. “It’s not that he’s completely ignoring us. He’s already been dragged into this, and now he’s under investigation. Mabel, I honestly had no other choice. I just need your help this once. When your sister-in-law and Rosie get out, I promise they’ll come thank you in person.”
The truth was, Jackson never planned to help Mandy and Rosie at all. But then Rosie had gone and started bragging at the police station about how her uncle was Jackson, acting like he could fix anything for her.
She ended up saying a bunch of things that put Jackson right in the middle of the mess, and now he was being questioned too.
Still, something this minor wouldn’t really faze Jackson, and he’d already decided to stay out of it. He was content to let Mandy and Rosie sit tight at the station for a while. Once his promotion was set, he’d swoop in and bring them home. Maybe it would finally teach them a lesson.
But Benjamin couldn’t just leave them there. Mandy and Rosie had been pampered their entire lives. How could they spend their days in jail? Rosie had cried herself into a faint last night. Benjamin was out of options, so he came running to Mabel.
“So, to keep Jackson out of trouble, you’re dumping this on me? Wow, you really are my brother, huh? And now you want to drag William into this too, just so you can get them out? Are you listening to yourself?” Mabel’s voice was icy and every word hit its mark.
Benjamin looked like he was about to explode from frustration. “Mabel, I didn’t mean it like that. Jackson’s career is at a critical point, everyone’s watching him right now. But William’s not in that position.”
“Exactly. William is honest. He always does things by the book. He’s never abused his authority, which is why no one’s keeping tabs on him.”
Benjamin gave an awkward laugh. “Right, so if he could just talk to the police for us, he could get your sister-in-law and Rosie out.”
Listening from the side, William could hardly believe what he was hearing. He was so close to losing his temper.
Just then, the butler’s voice came from the hallway, this time speaking to Lydia. “Lydia, Mr. Jefferson is here.”
Connor had been waiting for Lydia to reach out, but when he didn’t hear anything and his grandfather started getting impatient, he decided to come over himself.
When he pulled up to the Norwood house and saw all the cars out front, he figured they had company. He just didn’t know who.
As he walked into the villa, the first thing he saw was William sitting on the sofa, looking as cold and intimidating as ever, his dark eyes fixed right on him.
Connor lifted an eyebrow. So, it was the Robinson family.

Olha a história bem boa só algumas coisas são chatas ( nesse tipo de história sempre troca as filhas pela a da empregada ou então pegam uma menina pra criar) pelo menos eles tratam a filha bem só enche o saco que até agora a Lucinda tá lá enchendo ! Fora isso tá bom Connor é um fofo a família dela a ama muito só Lucinda pra abaixar o nível do livro já era pra ter resolvido isso e fazer ela pagar mais tudo bem li um livro chinês que era parecido só algumas coisas diferentes ,ais mesma coisa tipo ela salvou o Connor no início lá ela salvava o avô dele , no chinês ela não tinha um irmão mais novo com os pais adotivos , a mãe dela tinha 2 irmãos e todos os avós estavam vivos mais história quase igual e tem coisas tipo o triângulo que lá TB tinha até a Lucinda que no chines TB ficou o livro todo aprontando só no final a família descobria e se livrava dela aí ela ia morar com o cara que ela usa pra disfarçar que não gosta do Connor aí depois ainda quase matava a irmã dele e a mãe dele que ele via como ela era...
