Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 752

Connor froze, his face turning to stone. For a second, he seriously started questioning everything about his life. William had already stabbed him with a harsh comment earlier, and now Lydia was twisting the knife. He stared at her, all wounded puppy eyes, but his tone was stubborn. “I’m not giving you a chance to change your mind.”

Then he scooped her right onto his lap, not caring what anyone thought. Lydia was so petite. Next to Connor, she lookd even more delicate and perfect. You’d never guess this was the same girl who could take down a whole group of grown men, even professional killers, without breaking a sweat.

Connor buried his face in the soft, sweet spot where Lydia’s neck met her shoulder. His voice was low and rich, with just a hint of something wild. “Lydia, if you ever try to leave me, I’ll show you exactly how crazy a man in love can get.”

They hadn’t even reached the Jefferson family estate when Grandpa Samuel’s video call popped up—on Lydia’s phone, of course. She answered with a polite smile. “Hi, Grandpa Samuel.”

Grandpa Samuel looked like he couldn’t stop grinning, his laughter booming through the phone. “Lydia, where are you and Connor now?”

“We’ll be there in five minutes,” she said.

“Perfect! I’ll be waiting for you,” he said, practically bouncing with excitement.

Connor watched the screen, eyebrow twitching. Since when had the old man ever been this sweet to his brothers? Never. Not once.

The car soon pulled up at the Jefferson family’s gate, and there was Grandpa Samuel, standing there like he’d been waiting for hours. As soon as he spotted them, he nearly jumped up and down with joy.

“Lydia!”

He waved her over, leaning on his cane, his whole face lighting up. “Grandpa Samuel,” Lydia said, walking over and looking as sweet and well-behaved as ever.

“Lydia, has the training been tough? Are you settling in at school? Eating enough?”

But Grandpa Samuel just grinned wider. “Not early at all. The house is big, and renovations take forever. You know new houses need to air out for a good year or two so they’re healthy to live in.”

Connor cleared his throat, worried the old man might scare Lydia off. “Grandpa, maybe we can talk about this later.”

Grandpa Samuel seemed to get the message and managed to rein himself in. “Lydia, Connor’s mom heard you’ve been helping with his eyes. She was really touched. She wants to come home and meet you. Would that be alright?”

Connor’s mother had lived abroad for years, almost never coming back. But when she heard Lydia was treating Connor’s eyes and how much he cared about her, she really wanted to come see Lydia for herself. Still, Grandpa Samuel wanted to make sure Lydia was comfortable with it first.

To be honest, Lydia hadn’t heard much about Connor’s mom before now.
