Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 753

Since Lydia was Connor’s girlfriend, it just made sense for her to meet his mom too.

“I was actually hoping to visit her,” Lydia said.

That was all Grandpa Samuel needed to hear. He was over the moon.

“Lydia, you are just the sweetest. If Connor ever gives you a hard time, you come straight to me. I’ll deal with him for you!”

Grandpa Samuel made sure the kitchen whipped up a huge lunch, packed with all of Lydia’s favorite dishes. Afterward, the gifts started piling up. Connor’s car couldn’t even fit them all, so they called for another one to haul the rest. Lydia was going home with more presents than she could count, and every single one was something a girl would love, all top of the line.

Grandpa Samuel had planned this ages ago. He just needed Lydia to visit so he could spoil her. His grandson was hopeless at this sort of thing, so as the grandpa, he had to step in and help.

Lydia didn’t even know what to say.

“Grandpa Samuel, this is honestly too much.”

“It’s not, really. As long as you like them. Remember to take care of yourself at school, okay?”

“I will.”

“And if anyone dares to mess with you, just let me know. I’ll set them straight.”

“Okay.”

Once they got in the car, Connor and Lydia didn’t head back to the Norwood estate. They asked Aiden and the bodyguards to take all the gifts home for them.

Aiden was completely baffled. “Boss, you and Miss Lydia…”

Connor shot him a look. “Since when do I have to check in with you?”

Aiden shrank back. He was just curious. If they weren’t driving themselves home, where were they going?

They weren’t far from Luke’s school. Luke had rented a tiny apartment nearby. Of course, he hadn’t told Lydia exactly where he lived, just told her not to worry, that he’d look after himself. But if Lydia wanted to find him, it wouldn’t be hard.

There were all kinds of neighborhoods near the school—old, run-down ones, some that had been fixed up, and some that were basically luxury apartments.

Lydia figured out the direction and headed toward one of the older neighborhoods. The deeper she went, the narrower the alleys got, and the more rundown everything looked. Lydia’s brow creased as she took it all in.

When she got to a tiny courtyard, she hadn’t even had a chance to check the address before she heard someone inside, mocking and loud.

“Luke? Weren’t you supposed to be filthy rich? What are you doing living in the slums with the rest of us?”

“Richest family, my ass. He’s lucky he’s not six feet under.”

“He’s got some nerve, turning his own parents in and sending them to jail. Serves him right, ending up in a dump like this.”
