Spencer’s face froze again. He clearly hadn’t expected Lydia, who looked so young and harmless, to be this strong-willed and relentless. “I’m just thinking of my patients. Our whole staff has been watching over them twenty-four seven. We can’t risk anything happening. But you? You keep talking, but you still haven’t shown us your medical license, and you won’t even let me take a look at your so-called antidote. What are you hiding?”
When Spencer realized he couldn’t intimidate Lydia, he tried to turn the tables.
“Are you doubting Kevin?” Lydia’s reply was so calm and direct that Spencer was left speechless.
As soon as Lydia mentioned Kevin, Vincent, who had already lost patience, jumped in. “Spencer, Dr. Norwood just talked to Kevin on the phone. We all heard it. There’s no question about her identity. Let’s just give the medicine to the patients and see if it works. Their situation is already really bad.”
“Yeah, Spencer, I trust Dr. Norwood. Let’s take her to the patients now.”
“Spencer…”
In a heartbeat, everyone was backing Lydia, insisting she see the patients. Spencer looked furious, though his protective suit and mask did a good job of hiding it.
“Alright. Since you’re all so sure about her, let me make this clear. If her medicine causes any problems, I’m not responsible. If she ends up killing someone, it’s all on her.”
The room fell silent. The truth was, a lot of the infected patients were already in serious danger, hanging on by a thread. Before Lydia showed up, people were dying every day. Spencer had done his best to keep it quiet, telling the families, “We’re sorry, we did everything we could.” And now, he wanted to dump all the blame on Dr. Norwood?
Lydia saw right through him. She let out a dry, cold laugh. “I can take responsibility for the patients under my care, but first I need to know how many infected people there are, how serious their conditions are, and how many have died so far.”
The guilt was clear on Spencer’s face. Vincent looked him straight in the eye. “Spencer, at this point there’s nothing left to hide. Just tell Dr. Norwood the truth.”
Spencer’s face was red, veins bulging in his neck. He looked like a wild animal cornered and desperate.
Connor didn’t even flinch. “Since you’re in charge, you can come with us to check on the patients.”
Lydia gave Spencer a look filled with sarcasm. “What’s wrong? Are you scared?”
Before she came here, Lydia thought things couldn’t possibly be that bad. Now, she realized it was way worse than she’d imagined.
Spencer puffed out his chest. “Why would I be scared? If you can’t fix things, I’ll report all of you. The higher-ups will make sure you pay.”

thank u!...
thank u for the upload...
the next chapter is exciting...
the next upload is exciting. i cant wait....
Every chapter is missing a sentence from the end of every chapter. It’s frustrating to try guess what’s missing or said...
