Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 901

“You idiot! We were halfway to pulling this off and you ruined everything.”

“It’s that stupid bitch! She’s way too sharp. It’s like she’s carrying some kind of super antidote. Every virus we throw at her just vanishes. And now they’ve got a replacement formula. Pretty soon they’ll be making it in bulk and our virus won’t stand a chance.”

The man on the other end went quiet for a moment, his voice dropping, colder than before. “Useles! If you let them uncover our plan, I’ll make sure your whole family pays the price.”

Spencer’s voice trembled. “I’ll be more careful, I promise. Just… don’t hurt my family. I’ll try again.”

The man let out a disgusted snort and hung up.

Spencer had no idea that at that very moment, Lydia was at her computer, trying to trace his contact’s IP address. She almost had it, but the connection cut out before she could finish.

“Southeast Asia?” Garrett stared at the screen, his eyes wide with disbelief.

Lydia and Connor didn’t say a word. They both knew that region all too well.

Three years had passed since they’d last dealt with those underground rats, but clearly, some old pests had crawled out of hiding.

The real question was, who was helping them this time? Whose interests were they serving now?

“But judging from his accent, he’s definitely one of us,” Garrett said, still confused.

Lydia’s eyes narrowed. “Let’s end this fast. Even if we can’t get to the one pulling the strings yet, we can still make an example out of Spencer. They’ll realize our country isn’t an easy target. Maybe it’ll scare the others into backing off.”

Now that she knew Spencer’s handler was in Southeast Asia, Lydia had no patience left for games. If those people wanted a fight, she was ready. If another Spencer appeared, she’d take them out too. One after another, until she found where the virus was being made.

Late at night, when the hospital was quiet and everyone else was asleep, a figure in full protective gear pushed a cart down the hallway. They stopped at the nurses’ station by the pharmacy, then took a syringe and injected a clear liquid into the bags of medicine meant for patients with mild symptoms. Each bag got the same treatment before being put back where it belonged.

He thought he was almost done, ready to slip away, when the door swung open. A clear, familiar voice filled the room, sweet but sharp enough to haunt his dreams.

“Well, Spencer, you really are a dedicated doctor, aren’t you? Can’t sleep, so you’re in here working overtime all by yourself?”
