Lucinda felt like her mind had just exploded. It was as if every single pair of eyes in the auditorium had swung her way.
She squeezed her hands together and stood up, but all the confidence and pride she usually carried around had vanished.
“I... I’ve only managed to solve half of it...”
Honestly, there were other students who’d only solved part of the problem too, but whether their answers were right or not was a different story.
Usually, when Lucinda tackled a problem, she could stand up in front of everyone and announce her process and solution without a hint of doubt. But this time, she really wasn’t sure.
The professors on the judging panel exchanged uncertain glances.
Everyone in the room looked stunned. They all thought Lucinda would have no problem with a question like this. She was supposed to be the math department’s prodigy.
“Are you serious? Is this question really that hard? Even the richest girl in school can’t solve it?”
“I know, right? They all said she was a math genius.”
“Yeah, they called her the backbone of the department.”
“Is this all the backbone can do?”
A few students whispered behind their hands, and Lucinda felt her whole body go cold.
This was the first time she’d ever been this embarrassed in front of so many teachers and classmates.
Right now, she just wanted to give the person who wrote this problem a piece of her mind.
“Hey! What are you all saying? This is the final question. No one else has solved it either, so why should Lucinda be the only one who has to?”
“Exactly! Do you think she’s some kind of superhero? She’s a freshman, just like the rest of us. She’s still learning too!”
“If you think it’s so easy, why don’t you go solve half the problem?”
“They couldn’t solve anything! Their brains are full of nonsense. If they figured out even one step, I’d be impressed!”
“I think so, Mr. Gartner. They’re just freshmen. There are some concepts they haven’t even learned yet.”
Mr. Gartner was a legendary professor in the Capital College math department, a man who’d spent his whole life obsessed with mathematics.
Lucinda had done great since the semester started. He’d really believed in her, so he definitely hadn’t seen this coming.
“Mr. Gartner, should we swap out the question?”
Mr. Gartner shook his head. “If nobody can solve it, that’s just how it is. Changing the question now would be ridiculous. People would laugh at us.”
Professor Donley cleared his throat. “I heard the med school competition just finished, and the winner was that national top scorer, Lydia. She was incredible.”
Hearing Lydia’s name, Mr. Gartner couldn’t help but feel a pang of regret.
Lydia had been the only student to get a perfect score in every subject. He’d gone out of his way to check her math paper, and every answer was flawless. She was, without a doubt, the real deal.

thank u!...

the next chapter is exciting...
the next upload is exciting. i cant wait....
Every chapter is missing a sentence from the end of every chapter. It’s frustrating to try guess what’s missing or said...
