Rebirth of the Broken Luna A Second Chance at Luna's Heart novel Chapter 188

Chapter 188

“How dare you!” I snarled, my vision narrowing to a tunnel focused entirely on his face. “How dare you touch my mate!”

“Xenois, wait-” someone said from behind me, and a hand grabbed my arm.

I spun around, ready to fight off whoever was trying to interfere, and found myself staring at a man I’d never seen before. He was tall

and lean, with dark hair and concerned brown eyes, and he was very obviously not wearing a shirt.

My brain short-circuited as I tried to process what I was seeing. This wasn’t Lumina. This was a man. A man who had apparently been

in bed with Zade when I burst in.

“Wait, what?!” I said stupidly, my hands loosening on Zade’s throat.

The man stepped closer, his expression shifting from concern to something that might have been amusement. “You must be Xenois,” he said calmly, as if finding me choking his apparent lover against a hospital wall was a perfectly normal way to meet someone new.

I released Zade completely and stepped back, my mind struggling to catch up with this unexpected development. “I… you’re not…

where’s Lumina?”

Zade rubbed his throat and straightened his shirt, his initial shock giving way to what looked like embarrassment. “She’s with Ollie in

the pediatric wing,” he said hoarsely. “Two floors up. Room 512.”

The man who wasn’t Lumina extended his hand toward me with a slight smile. “I’m Lyn,” he said simply. “Zade’s mate. And you just

gave both of us the scare of our lives.”

I stared at his outstretched hand, then at Zade, then back at Lyn, my brain still trying to process this information. Zade had a mate. A

male mate. Who was not my wife.

‘Oh,” I said weakly. “Oh, I’m… I’m really sorry. I thought… I mean, I saw you two and I assumed…” I trailed off, realizing how

ridiculous I must sound,

Lyn’s smile widened into something genuinely warm. “You assumed Zade was taking advantage of your mate and decided to defend her honor. That’s actually rather sweet, in a terrifying, nearly homicidal sort of way.”

“I really am sorry,” I repeated, looking between them both. “I’ve had a very long few days, and I guess I’m not thinking clearly.”

Zade waved off my apology, though he was still rubbing his throat where I’d grabbed him. “No harm done,” he said. “Though next

time, maybe try knocking first?”

“Definitely, I agreed fervently. “Knocking is good. I like knocking.”

Lyn laughed, a sound that was genuinely amused rather than mocking. “Well, this is certainly one way to meet your rival,” he said to Zade. “Should I be worried that all the Blackwoods have such dramatic entrances?”

Chapter 188

“You have no idea,” I muttered, thinking about my parents and their recent activities in the forest.

I backed toward the door, suddenly desperate to get out of this increasingly awkward situation and find my actual family. “I should

go,” I said. “Lumina’s probably wondering where I am, and I have a lot of explaining to do.”

“Good luck,” Zade called after me. “And Xenois? Your son is going to be fine. The curse is completely broken.”

I paused in the doorway, feeling a rush of gratitude toward this man I’d just tried to strangle. “Thank you,” I said sincerely. “For

everything you’ve done for my family. I owe you more than I can ever repay.”

“Just take care of them,” he replied simply. “That’s payment enough.”

I nodded and left them to their… whatever they had been doing before I interrupted. The elevator ride to the fifth floor gave me a

few minutes to collect myself and prepare for the conversation I actually needed to have.

This time, I was definitely going to knock first.
