Rebirth of the Broken Luna A Second Chance at Luna's Heart novel Chapter 199

Chapter 199

ANDY

67

Two weeks. It had been two weeks since I’d last heard from Sophia, and I hated to admit it but the silence was eating at me with

worry and dread. Yes we had a falling out when I basically told her that I wasn’t going to help her out with her delusions about a fairytale

that she had been having but my half-sister had never gone this long without contacting me, especially not when she was in the middle of

executing one of her elaborate schemes to win back Xenois Blackwood’s affections.

The last conversation we’d had replayed endlessly in my mind as I paced around my small apartment unable to remain calm, wearing

a path in the already threadbare carpet. Sophia had been so confident, so certain that her plan would finally work.

“I’m going to get rid of that brat Riley once and for all,” she’d told me, her voice filled with malicious satisfaction through the phone.

“And now that I’ve successfully driven Lumina and Ollie away from the city, Xenois will have no choice but to turn to me for comfort.

He’ll finally realize that I’m the only one who truly understands him and he would see the truth that I have seen all along. That we were

meant to be, and Lumina alongside Ollie and Riley had been obstacles, road bumps to our happily ever after.”

I’d tried to talk her out of it, tried to convince her that killing children was crossing a line even I wasn’t willing to approach at all.

But Sophia had been drunk on her own delusions and expectations that she had for the future, and she had been so convinced that

she was untouchable after years of getting away with a lot of forbidden dangerous evil acts.

“Don’t worry about the moral implications, Andy,” she’d said dismissively, as if she was scolding me for bringing such a minor fact up.

“You’ve already helped me more than enough by stealing Riley in the first place. All those months you spent disguised as a doctor, all that work you did to drug Lumina and wipe everyone’s memories so she’d think she only had one child – it’s finally going to pay off.”

The reminder of what I’d done six years ago still made my stomach twist with guilt and regret. I’d been so young, so desperate to please my half sister, so convinced that helping her would somehow make me worthy of the love and acceptance I’d always craved from her. As an illegitimate child born out of wedlock, my mum was put to death for being a witch and I was raised alongside my father and his mate. Things got worse when his mate finally gave birth to Sophia and I was told all my life that I had to make her happy to stay alive. Her happiness was mine to fix, whatever she wanted go, I accepted because I had no choice. I was raised as a werewolf and my powers were locked as I was always kept in lead chains. Even up to now, Sophia had always managed to lure me in to do her bidding.

And I had done it. Starting with Riley, for nine months, I’d maintained a perfect disguise as Dr. Andeline Kingston, working in the maternity ward where Lumina Blackwood was scheduled to give birth. I’d been there when she first came in for check up. I had been the one who had been drugging her, sending her home everyday in a daze, used an illusion spell to make her stomach look like she was pregnant with only one child, she went into labor, and I had been the one to drug her during the delivery so she wouldn’t remember giving birth to twins.

The memory of that night still haunted my dreams. The sound of two babies crying instead of one.

The way I’d carefully bundled Riley up and took him away while everyone else believed he’d never existed.

I’d wiped the memories of every doctor, nurse, and orderly who’d been present during the birth. I’d altered medical records, destroyed security footage, eliminated every trace of evidence that might have revealed the truth. And then I’d handed an innocent newborn over to my sister like he was nothing more than a tool in her twisted games.
