Rebirth of the Broken Luna A Second Chance at Luna's Heart novel Chapter 219

Chapter 219

BULLET

This was one of the ridiculous plans that I have ever carried out in doing a job and I felt humiliation burning down in me as I guided the stolen ice cream truck through the winding long roads that led to Alpha Zade’s personal mansion after successfully sneaking into his territory and crossing his border illegally without being caught by the patrol guards.

The cheerful melody that was playing from the speakers attached on the van felt like a sick joke given what I was here to do. Although I had to be honest, the truck had been the perfect cover for me to carry out my business without being worried about being caught or suspected after all- nobody suspected an ice cream vendor of being a threat, especially not in a peaceful pack territory like this

one.

My crew sat in the back among the freezers and supplies needed for the ice cream, their weapons were hidden from plain sight but easily accessible.

Jake, my second-in-command, peered through the small window that separated the driver’s compartment from the storage area.

“You sure this is going to work?” he asked, his voice sounded tense, which I knew came from the kind of nervousness that came from infiltrating werewolf territory without permission.

“It’ll work,” I replied, though I felt my own anxiety building as we approached the main gate, but I willed it down..I was the leader which meant that if I showed them I was scared, the whole plan was going to be a bust.

“Sophia’s plan is solid and foolproof, nobody is going to look at us or suspect anything. All we need to do is get close to the targets using the ice cream truck as cover, keep an eye on them by moving round selling ice creams to the kid and then isolate them when the opportunity presents itself, and complete the job quickly and quietly.”

The job was simple enough kill Lumina Blackwood and her son Ollie, make it look like a random rogue attack, and collect our payment from Sophia Kingston. She’d been very specific about wanting both targets eliminated, claiming it was necessary for some larger plan she had in motion.

I’d worked with Sophia before, and she always paid well for discreet work. The fact that she wanted a child killed had given me pause initially because that was a first even for her, but the money she was offering was too good to pass up.

Besides, werewolf politics weren’t my concern, neither did I care for them as I wasn’t a citizen of any territory- I was just a tool for hire, and Sophia Kingston paid better than most.

As we rounded the final curve before Alpha Zade’s gate, I slowed the truck and activated the ice cream melody at full volume.

The sound would serve two purposes it would draw any children in the area to come running, and it would mask the sound of our approach while I assessed the security situation that Alpha Zade had and how we might be able to bypass it.

The gate itself was impressive but not overwhelming or something impossible to bypass it was made with wrought iron filled with

decorative elements that suggested wealth and class rather than military fortification.

I could see a guard house, but it appeared to be minimally staffed. This was a private residence, not a fortress, which meant security would be focused on keeping unwanted visitors out rather than defending against a full assault.

I drove slowly along the perimeter fence, my eyes scanning around for guard positions, weak spots where we could use without being seen, security cameras and where they are positioned and also potential escape routes that might be needed after the job was done.

The property was large and well-maintained, with expansive lawns and carefully tended gardens visible through the iron bars.

That’s when I spotted the kid.

He was sitting under a large oak tree about fifty yards from the main house, a book open in his lap as he read in the shade. From this distance, I couldn’t make out his features clearly, but his size and posture suggested he was around the right age to be my target.

“There,” I said to Jake, nodding toward the tree. “Kid under the oak. That’s got to be Ollie Blackwood.”

Jake squinted through the window, trying to get a better look at the kid I was pointing at as he glanced at me and asked. “You sure?

Hard to tell from here.”

“Age looks right, and he’s on the property,” I replied, already formulating a plan needed to get him out from there without risking danger to ourselves. “We get him to come to the truck, isolate him from any adults, and take him out quickly. Then we find the mother and finish the job.”

I was just beginning to turn the truck around to approach the gate directly when something happened that made my blood run cold.

The kid under the tree looked up at the sound of our music, but instead of running toward us like most children would, he remained seated and watched us with what looked like suspicious interest.

And then, before I could process what I was seeing, another child came running out of the house, waving money in his small fist as he headed straight for our truck.

Two kids. Two identical kids.

“Holy shit, Jake breathed, his face pressed against the window. “Boss, there are two of them. They look exactly the same.”

My mind raced as I tried to make sense of what I was seeing because this was not part of the plan. Sophia had mentioned that Ollie had a twin brother, but she’d been very clear that the other boy – Riley was supposed to be dead.

I’d been there when she’d pushed the kid off that cliff, had watched his small body disappear into the rushing water below. There was no way he could have survived that fall.
