Chapter 231
XENOIS
Carol smiled brightly, but it didn’t reach her eyes. “We were just discussing how grateful we are for everything your family has done
for us.”

I studied both of them carefully, noticing and noting the way that they were avoiding direct eye contact and also subtle signs of their
recent argument.
Neither of them realized we had overheard their entire conversation about Andy, Shadow City, and their fears about working with
werewolves who had a record of killing people of their kind for shits and giggles.
“Actually,” I said, settling into a chair that was placed across from Marcus’s bed,
“that’s part of why we’re here. We need to discuss our next steps in dealing with Andy.”
My parents took positions around the room, my mother sat down near the window where she could observe Marcus’s facial expressions, my father stood by the door where he could prevent any sudden departures that Marcus might try to initiate.
“We’ve been developing a plan to capture Andy and bring her to justice,” I continued, watching Marcus’s face carefully for any reaction, that would help me give an insight about his thoughts. “But we need more information about her operations and her location.”
Marcus shifted uncomfortably in his bed, his knuckles white where he gripped the blankets. Carol moved closer to the bedside table, her hand hovering near a fruit knife that had been left there from an earlier meal.
“Is there anything you can tell us about Andy?” I pressed, keeping my tone conversational but letting a hint of Alpha authority creep into my voice, trying to subdue him into telling me what I needed to know.
“Where does she operate from? How does she conduct her business?”
The silence stretched between us, heavy with tension. Carol’s fingers inched closer to the knife handle, and I realized she was silently
threatening her husband to cooperate.
Marcus caught the gesture and sighed heavily, defeat written across his face. “I might be able to get you into Shadow City,” he admitted reluctantly. “But fooling Andy isn’t going to work. She can see things before they happen – visions of potential futures, not definite but she gets this kind of flashes that helps her stay ahead of the game, and she has a crystal ball as well. Besides that city is a walking deathtrap, especially for werewolves.”
“Precognitive abilities, my father mused, his mind already thinking about how this changes everything that we knew.
“That explains how she’s managed to stay ahead of her enemies for so long.”
“It’s more than that,” Marcus continued, warming to the topic despite his obvious reluctance to share the information.

“Shadow City itself is designed to be hostile to outsiders, especially werewolves. Everyone there has a grudge about werewolves and
I’m willing to bet my life, every single person has a son story leading back to one werewolf or the other. Not just that, wolves that
normally use their sense of direction and smell to help them navigate become stumped when they get there. The buildings shift and
change, the streets rearrange themselves, and there are traps and barriers everywhere that are used to target outsiders.”
My mother leaned forward with interest written all over her face as she asked. “But you can navigate it safely?”
‘I’ve lived there for years, when I wasn’t with Carol Marcus nodded. “I know the old patterns, the safe routes, the places where Andy’s
influence is weaker. But bringing a group of werewolves into that environment… it would be like painting targets on all our backs.”
“What if we didn’t bring a group?” I suggested. “What if it was just a small team of the most essential people?”
Carol and Marcus exchanged a look that was filled with loads of shared history and mutual understanding. I
could see them having an entire conversation with their eyes, weighing risks and possibilities.
“The moment Andy realizes werewolves are in her territory, she’ll mobilize every resource she has to eliminate the threat,” Marcus warned. “She has contacts throughout the supernatural community – vampires, witches, demons, creatures that most people don’t even know exist. And they all owe her favors. Andy is a very shrew businesswoman and she loves owing people so when she’s collecting, she
won’t run out of them
“But she also has Riley on her end, I pointed out. “Or at least, she thinks she does. If we could use that somehow…”
Marcus shook his head grimly. “Riley was never the real prize, sure they are family but Riley is more of a lab experiment to Andy than a nephew to her. She will use him if she thinks Riley is still malleable and can be swayed with some words. Now that Sophia’s gone and Riley is with you, Andy’s priorities will have shifted.”
The room fell silent as we all processed this information. Andy wasn’t just a witch with a grudge, she was a player who knew all the
moves and was certain of every outcome.
“There’s something else,” Carol said quietly, her hand still resting near the knife. “Andy doesn’t just kill her enemies. She makes examples of them. Public, brutal examples that serve as warnings to anyone else who might consider opposing her.”
My wolf stirred restlessly at the implied threat to my family. The idea of Andy targeting Lumina or the boys filled me with a rage that I was barely able to control.
“So what do you suggest?” my father asked, tackling the main issue instead of hovering around it like it was a sacred thing. “We can’t just wait for her to make the first move.”
Marcus looked directly at me, and for the first time since we’d entered the room, his expression was completely honest and unguarded. “You want my advice? Take your family and disappear. Find somewhere so remote that even Andy’s powers can’t track you down. Because if you try to fight her on her own territory, you’re all going to die.”
“I appreciate the warning,” I said carefully, as I added, making sure he knew how serious I was about this. “But running isn’t something my family does. We protect what’s ours, and we deal with threats directly.”

Marcus nodded as if he’d expected that response from me as he didn’t seem surprised that I turned it down. “Then you’re going to need every advantage you can get. And despite everything I just said about the dangers…” He glanced at Carol, who gave him a subtle nod of encouragement. “I’ll help you get into Shadow City. Not because I think we can win, but because Carol’s right we owe you that much.”
“When do we leave?” Carol asked, her voice steady despite the obvious terror she was feeling.
