Reborn From Regret A Second Chance at Luna’s Heart

Chapter 24

Lumina

I barely slept that night, staring at the ceiling as Xenois’s accusations were replayed in my mind.

In my previous life, I had been cruel – I knew that. I had said terrible things, done terrible things to Riley, in anger, and his mother

Sophia, when I saw how much Xenois doted on them. I was desperate and envious enough to reduce myself to that immature woman,

because I thought I was protecting what I thought was mine.

But this time was different. This time, I had been nothing but polite to Sophia, even nice to her son.

Yet here I was, being accused of the very cruelty I was trying so hard to avoid.

The next morning, I went through my daily routine with my son.

He asked for his father but I told him that he left early for work and he believed me.

I made breakfast, packed Ollie’s lunch, and drove him to school just like any other day.

But my hands were shaking a bit as I gripped the steering wheel, and I had to force myself to smile when I kissed his forehead

goodbye.

“Have a wonderful day, sweetheart,” I whispered against his hair, breathing in his familiar scent.

“I will, Mama,” he said happily, already running toward the school entrance where his friends were waiting.

I was still terrified of losing him, still waiting for that mysterious sickness to set in but he seemed to be alright now. I only hoped that I had time. Because it started as soon as Sophia met Riley. But this time around, I was going to make sure that he never met her.

The drive to Xenois’s office felt longer than usual, after going to all my other appointments.

I had agreed to apologize, because that was the fastest way to get Xenois off my back so that I can plan in secret. If I refused, Xenois would pressure me giving me no breathing space and he would have people watching me. An apology was a small prize to pay for getting

out of this mess of a marriage before it was too late.

But when I arrived at the company and made my way to the highest floor where his office was located, his secretary and my friend,

Margo looked uncomfortable when I asked for him.

“I’m sorry, Lumina,” she said, not quite meeting my eyes as she rubbed the back of her neck. Margo had been a good friend to me. She hated Xenois and tried telling me to leave him but after I told her that I didn’t care about what Xenois did outside the marriage, she

stopped telling me some things he did, probably to spare me the pain.

“Tell me where he is, Margo” I said quietly as she nodded her head.

“Mr.Blackwood left for an early lunch meeting about twenty minutes ago.”

Something cold settled in my stomach as I narrowed my eyes in confusion. “A lunch meeting? With whom?”

Margo hesitated, her fingers fidgeting with the papers on her desk. “I… I believe it was with Ms. Kingston and her son. Something

about pack business.”

Pack business. Right.

“Could you give me the address of the restaurant?” I asked, my voice carefully neutral.

Margo’s discomfort was palpable, but she wrote down the address on a piece of paper and handed it to me. “Lumina, I—*

“Thank you,” I cut her off gently. I didn’t need her pity or her awkward attempts at comfort.

The restaurant was one of the nicer establishments in town the kind of place where the city’s rich people went to see and be seen.

As I pulled into the parking lot, I saw Xenois’s black Mercedes immediately.

My hands were steady as I turned off the engine, and took a deep breath to steady myself for the hurdle ahead.

Through the large windows, I could see them before I even entered. Xenois, my husband, the father of my child, sitting across from

Sophia in a cozy booth near the window. Riley was beside his mother, and they looked… they looked like a family.

The sight hit me harder than I had expected. Although I had mentally prepped myself for this, seeing my true mate so intimate with

another woman felt like I was dying.

I stood there for a moment, frozen by the window, watching this intimate scene play out. Xenois was more happy than I had seen him

in months, leaning forward slightly as he spoke to Riley, his eyes bright with genuine interest.

This was the man I had fallen in love with in my previous life, before everything had gone so terribly wrong. This was the father I had

always wanted him to be with Ollie.

But he was being that father to someone else’s child.

Taking a deep breath, I straightened my shoulders and walked into the restaurant. The hostess greeted me with a professional smile trying to direct me to an empty table but I waved her off, having already been aware of my destination.

“Xenois,” I called out as I approached their table, keeping my voice casual and unaffected.

All three of them looked up at my approach, and I watched as the warm, relaxed expression on my husband’s face shifted to

something more guarded.

Sophia’s eyes widened slightly, and she instinctively moved closer to Riley, as if protecting him. Was she putting on a stupid act to

sell her lie even more. Typical.

But it was Riley’s reaction that cut the deepest. I was expecting the same cheery boy I met yesterday. The one unaware of his mum’s

manipulation.

But the moment he saw me, his entire body went rigid, his small body tensing up gripping his cutleries tight as if preparing for an

attack. He barely looked at me. Riley hadn’t said a word since I arrived, but I could feel his fear radiating off him in wave.

What the hell was going on here?

“Lumina,” Xenois said, his voice carefully neutral. “I wasn’t expecting you.”

“Margo told me you were having a lunch meeting,” I replied, sliding into the empty chair across from them without being invited. “I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to have that conversation we discussed.”

I turned to Sophia, who was watching me carefully as she narrowed her eyes at me, annoyance and a bit of fear in them as she felt

uncomfortable. Good.
