Chapter 270
LUMINA
94
The dungeons beneath the pack’s compound were carved from solid stone, designed to hold the most dangerous supernatural beings
while they awaited judgment. As we descended the narrow stairs, the temperature dropped noticeably, and the air grew thick with the
scent of despair and old blood.
Andy sat in the center of the reinforced cell, her wrists still bound by Carol’s lead-lined cuffs that suppressed her magical abilities.
She looked smaller somehow, diminished without the aura of power that had once made her so terrifying. But when she looked up and
saw me approaching, her lips curved into that same cruel smile that had haunted my nightmares for a year.
“Well, well,” she said, her voice carrying that familiar mocking tone. “If it isn’t the grieving mother, come to visit the woman who
destroyed her perfect little life.”
I felt Xenois tense beside me, his protective instincts flaring
intervening. This conversation was mine to have.

the deliberate provocation. But I held up a hand to stop him from
“You remember me,” I said, stepping closer to the cell bars. “I wasn’t sure you would, considering how thoroughly you wiped everyone
else’s memories.”
Andy’s smile widened. “Oh, I remember you perfectly, Lumina. Sweet, trusting Lumina who never suspected that dear Sophia was
slowly stealing everything she held dear.”
The casual cruelty in her voice made my hands clench into fists. Behind me, I could hear Lynn’s sharp intake of breath, and Samuel’s
low growl of anger. They were learning details about my past that I’d kept hidden, even from them.
*Five years,” I continued, my voice steady despite the rage building in my chest. “Five years you drugged me, made me believe I’d only given birth to one child instead of twins. Five years you let me mourn a son who was alive and suffering just miles away.”
“Five years you spent being the perfect little pack Luna,” Andy countered, “while your husband was magically compelled to pour all
his love and attention onto Sophia and the boy you thought was hers. Tell me, did you ever wonder why Xenois suddenly seemed so
distant? So cold?”
I had wondered. God, how I’d wondered. The man I’d married even though it was an arranged manage had been warm and affectionate, devoted to his family above all else. But after Sophia’s arrival, he’d become someone else entirely – still dutiful, still
protective, but emotionally absent in a way that had left me feeling like a stranger in my own marriage.
“The magical compulsion,” I said, pieces of the puzzle clicking into place. “You made him believe he loved them instead of us.
“It was Sophia’s idea, actually,” Andy said with obvious pride. “She was always the clever one. Why kill the Luna and risk a pack war
when you could simply make her irrelevant? Make her watch as her husband and son were stolen from her, bit by bit.”
Beside me, Xenois made a sound that was barely human. The guilt he’d been carrying since we’d discovered the truth about the

compulsion was eating him alive, and Andy’s words were like salt in an open wound.

“But you made one mistake,” I said, leaning against the cell bars with false casualness. “You assumed I’d stay Silent, and accept my
fate, then wait till you guys remember that there was no need keeping me alive..”
Andy’s smile faltered for the first time since we’d entered the dungeon. “What?”
“The night you and Sophia finally decided to eliminate the obstacles to your perfect little family,”
The memory of that day still woke me in cold sweats sometimes. The sound of the car coming at full speed, me taking the hit and
shielding Ollie, the acrid smell of smoke, the weight of Ollie’s small body in my arms as I tried desperately to shield him from the pain of
seeing his father choose Riley and Sophia over us. The searing pain as I watched his heart stop beside me in he middle of the road, the
darkness that had claimed me as I felt my son’s life slipping away beside me.
And then… waking up. Not in whatever afterlife awaited werewolves, but back in my own body, gasping and alive in my bed with no
memory of how I’d survived.
“Impossible,” Andy whispered, but I could see the fear creeping into her eyes. “You and Ollie were supposed to be irrelevant. Both of
you were supposed to die from the magic siphoning.”
“Yes, we did,” I agreed calmly, referring to my second chance at rebirth. The fact that nobody knew that in my previous life, I had lost
this battle, I had to watch my son ollie dies hate Riley because I thought his real mother was sophia and strained the relationship I had
with Xenois, so much that death felt like a relief to me..
“And somehow, someway, we came back. Call it divine intervention, call it cosmic justice, call it whatever you want. The fact remains
that your perfect plan failed.”
I straightened up and began walking slowly around the cell, letting her track my movement like a caged animal watching a predator.
“And once I was given a chance again, once I started investigating what had really happened to my family, the spell work you and
Sophia had woven began to unravel. Amazing what a motivated mother can discover when she starts asking the right questions.”
“The blood tests were the final piece,” Carol added from her position near the door. “DNA doesn’t lie, even when memories do. Riley
isn’t Sophia’s son at all. He’s Lumina and Xenois’s firstborn, stolen from you as an infant and raised to believe his real parents was Sophia
and Marcus Kingston do you remember him? Marcus, the man that Sophia murdered, her own mate, just to have a reason to come back to
silver creek and snuggle up to Xenois, her former boyfriend..”
Andy’s face had gone pale, but she rallied with typical viciousness. “And how’s that working out for you?” she asked with renewed
malice. “Your precious son wants nothing to do with you. He’d rather run away with one of my soldiers than stay with his ‘real’ family. All
that suffering, all that searching, and in the end, Sophia won anyway.”
The words hit their mark, just as she’d intended. The pain of Riley’s rejection was still raw, still bleeding. But I’d had time to think
about it, to understand what Andy and Sophia had really done to him.

“She didn’t win,” I said quietly. “She broke him. There’s a difference.”
“A broken tool is still useful,” Andy replied with a shrug. “Lake proved that quite effectively when he was working on your pet healer upstairs.”
Lynn stepped forward then, her medical bag in hand and her face set in grim determination.
“Speaking of Lake,” she said conversationally, “I’ve been wondering about something. You see, I’ve spent a lot of time studying pain tolerance lately-occupational necessity, given what my brother’s been through.”
Andy’s eyes narrowed suspiciously. “What’s your point?”
