Rebirth of the Broken Luna A Second Chance at Luna's Heart novel Chapter 317

Chapter 317

XENOIS

Lyn burst out laughing, the sound bright and unexpected in the morning quiet. “He’s not wrong, Zade. You did spend an impressive

amount of time being emotionally constipated about the whole thing.”

“Emotionally constipated,” Zade repeated, looking at his mate with mock offense. “You’re taking his side?”

“I’m taking the side of objective reality,” Lyn replied, still grinning. “Which happened to align with Xenois’s assessment in this

particular instance.”

I felt some of the tension in my shoulders ease. This-the easy camaraderie, the ability to joke about past mistakes-this was what I’d

needed. Proof that people could move forward from terrible situations without losing themselves entirely.

“Honestly, I’m excited to leave,” I announced, probably with more vehemence than was strictly polite. “Before you people turn my

mate gay and she ends up liking Lynn instead of me.”

Lynn, who’d been approaching with the last bag, stopped dead and stared at me. “Excuse me?”

“You already turned Thorne gay,” I continued, warming to the theme. “The man spent six years presumably fucking a statue in his house because he was so emotionally unavailable, and now he’s head over heels in love with Rivers. Like, Jesus fucking Christ, you people

are infectious.”

Lyn had given up trying to maintain any semblance of composure and was leaning against Zade, laughing so hard he was shaking. Even Zade’s lips were twitching, fighting a smile he was clearly determined not to show.

“Xenois,” Lumina said, her tone carrying that particular blend of exasperation and affection that meant she was both amused and ready for me to stop. “You should be happy that Thorne finally found someone. We used to assume he was in his house fucking a statue

for six years.”

That set Lyn off again, and even Lynn was struggling to maintain her professional demeanor. Thorne, to his credit, just rolled his eyes with the long-suffering patience of someone who’d dealt with my sense of humor for decades.

“Laugh it up,” Thorne said dryly. “At least I’m secure enough in my sexuality to actually pursue the person I want instead of dancing

around it for years like a coward.”

“Ouch,” I said, pressing a hand to my chest in mock hurt. “Shots fired.”

“You started it,” Thorne pointed out reasonably.

Rivers was watching this exchange with barely concealed amusement, and I saw the way his hand kept finding Thorne’s-small touches that suggested their relationship had progressed beyond casual into something more substantial.

We made our proper goodbyes then, the teasing giving way to genuine warmth and gratitude. Zade shook my hand again, his grip

firm. “Take care of your family, Xenois. And if you need anything-anything at all-you know how to reach me.”

“Same goes for you,” I replied. “Despite all the shit I give you, you’re a good alpha. And a good friend.”

Something flickered in Zade’s expression-surprise, maybe, or appreciation. We’d had a complicated relationship over the years,

shaped by territorial disputes and personal conflicts, but underneath all that was a foundation of mutual respect that had only grown

stronger through recent events.

Lyn hugged Lumina, the two of them exchanging quiet words I couldn’t quite hear. Then he turned to me, his expression serious.

“Thank you,” he said simply. “For trusting me with Lake’s story. For not making me feel weak for needing time before I could face him.”

“You’re one of the strongest people I know,” I told him honestly. “What you survived, what you’re still surviving-that takes more

courage than most alphas ever have to demonstrate.”

He nodded, blinking rapidly like he was fighting back tears. Zade’s arm went around his shoulders immediately, pulling him close in a

gesture that was both possessive and comforting.

Lynn hugged both Lumina and me, her embrace quick but genuine. “Remember what I said,” she murmured to me. “Document

everything. Build your case.”

“I will,” I promised.

I watched as Thorne stopped, turned to Rivers, and proceeded to kiss him with the kind of intensity that made me look away out of

basic decency.

“Okay, that’s…” I gestured vaguely at them. “That’s a lot of feelings for a goodbye.”

“They’re in love,” Lynn said, like this explained everything. “Let them have their moment.”

“Their moment has been going on for forty-five seconds,” I pointed out. “At what point does it become a public indecency concern?*

Lyn threw a pebble at me. I dodged it easily, grinning despite myself.
