Rebirth of the Broken Luna A Second Chance at Luna's Heart novel Chapter 352

Chapter 352

XENOIS

‘Damn right I would have,’ I confirmed. “Because it was reckless and dangerous and you’re children who shouldn’t be fighting ancient

supernatural creatures.”

‘But now you have a prisoner who can give you information,” Lake pointed out. “Now you have leverage and intelligence and a chance to understand what you’re fighting against. We did that. We gave you that advantage.”

I wanted to argue, wanted to explain why the ends didn’t justify the means, why their safety mattered more than tactical advantages. But looking at their faces-so serious, so certain of their actions-I realized this would be an ongoing conversation, not something I could

resolve with a single lecture.

“Third,” I said instead, “I need to know what else you installed in this house without telling us. What other modifications did you make? What other equipment did you bring from the facility?”

Riley and Lake exchanged glances again, clearly debating how much to reveal.

‘Some defensive measures, Riley admitted finally. “Nothing that would hurt anyone in the family, but things that would trigger if intruders entered. The light prison was one. There are also some alarm systems that normal people can’t detect, a few emergency supplies

hidden in various locations, and—”

‘We’ll need a full inventory,” Lumina interrupted. “Everything you’ve installed, everything you’ve hidden, everything you’ve modified.

Today. No arguments.”

Both boys nodded, accepting that consequence.

“And finally,” I said, my voice softening slightly, “what you did was brave. Stupid and reckless and terrifying, but brave. You protected your brother, you captured a threat, and you did it with planning and coordination that was honestly impressive for adults, let alone five-

year-olds.”

I saw surprise flash across both their faces, quickly hidden but unmistakable.

‘I’m still furious that you put yourselves in danger,’ I continued. “I’m still going to have nightmares about watching that smoke grab Ollie. But you were trying to help, trying to protect the family in the only way you knew how. And that matters. It doesn’t excuse the recklessness, but it matters.”

“So we’re not in trouble?’ Lake asked cautiously.

“Oh, you’re definitely in trouble,” Lumina said, though there was a hint of warmth underlying her stern tone.

“You’re grounded for a week. No TV, no comics, no extra desserts. And you’re going to spend that week writing detailed reports on every single modification you’ve made to this house so we can properly assess security implications.”

“But after that,’ I added, ‘we’re going to sit down together and work out proper protocols for situations like this. Because clearly you have skills and knowledge that could be valuable, and I’d rather work with you than against you. We just need to do it safely, with proper

oversight and planning.”

I watched both boys process that, saw the moment they realized we weren’t just punishing them-we were acknowledging their capabilities while setting boundaries around how those capabilities could be used.

“Okay,” Riley said finally. “That’s….. fair.”

“More than fair,” Lake agreed. “At the facility, we would have been punished way worse for acting without explicit orders.”

The casual way he said that made my blood run cold. What had their lives been like before we found them? What punishments had

they endured for stepping out of line?

But those were questions for another time. Right now, we needed to focus on the immediate situation—a house that had been ransacked, staff that were terrified, and a five-hundred-year-old nightwalker trapped in our basement who knew things we desperately

needed to learn.

“Alright,” I said, moving into alpha mode. “Here’s what’s going to happen. Lumina, you coordinate with Margaret and the rest of the staff. Make sure everyone is okay, get statements about what they saw, arrange for cleanup of the house. I’ll contact Thorne and the pack security team, let them know what happened and get additional protection measures in place.”

“And us?” Ollie asked, speaking up for the first time since the chaos had ended.

‘You three are going to clean up your room, do your homework, and stay where we can see you,” I said firmly.

‘No more adventures today. No more traps or plans or anything that could possibly result in anyone getting hurt. Clear?

‘Clear, all three boys chorused, though I noticed Riley and Lake both looked like they were already planning something even as they

agreed.

We’d have to watch them carefully. But right now, I had more immediate concerns.

As the boys headed upstairs and Lumina went to tend to the staff, I pulled out my phone and dialed Thorne’s number. He answered

on the second ring.

‘We have a problem,’ I said without preamble. “Nightwalkers attacked the house. Riley and Lake managed to capture one, but the others escaped. We need a security team here immediately, and we need to convene the council. This has escalated beyond a theoretical

threat.

Thorne swore quietly. “I’ll have a team there in fifteen minutes. And Xenois? Be very careful with that prisoner. Nightwalkers are old, powerful, and incredibly vindictive. If you’ve captured one, the others won’t stop until they’ve either retrieved him or made you pay for

the insult.”

‘I know,’ I said grimly. “That’s exactly what I’m counting on.”

Because if the nightwalkers wanted their captured brother back, they’d have to come for him. And this time, we’d be ready.
