Chapter 359
JEROME
“Then we’re surrounded by threats,” Marcus said, frustration bleeding into his voice. “The boys with their facility knowledge and supernatural abilities. The Luna with whatever power let her kill Silas. The Alpha with his pack resources and territorial advantage. How
are we supposed to succeed against all of that?”
“By being smarter,” I said firmly. “By using the advantages we still possess and exploiting their weaknesses rather than confronting
their strengths directly.”
“What advantages?” Victoria asked skeptically. “They have our brother. They know our weakness. They’re dug into defended territory
with pack support and-”
“And they’re emotionally compromised,” I interrupted.
“The Alpha and Luna have become attached to those boys. Ollie-the biological son-has bonded with his twin and adopted Lake as a brother. The entire family is invested in protecting Riley and Lake, which means they’ll make decisions based on emotion rather than
tactical necessity.”
I saw understanding begin to dawn on some faces, though others still looked uncertain.
“We can use that,” Helena said slowly. “Their attachment makes them predictable. They won’t abandon the boys, which means they won’t run even when running would be the smart choice. They’ll stay and fight, which gives us opportunities to strike.”
“Exactly,” I confirmed. “And while they’re powerful, they’re not invincible. The Alpha is strong but not immune to exhaustion or distraction. The Luna is dangerous but still mortal. The boys are brilliant but inexperienced with actual sustained combat. And Ollie is completely normal-just a five-year-old wolf cub with no special abilities beyond his heritage.”
“You’re suggesting we target the family,” Marcus said, and I couldn’t tell if his tone carried approval or concern. “Go after them directly rather than trying to extract the boys quietly.”
‘I’m suggesting we create a situation where they can’t win,” I said. “Where their only choice is to give us what we want or watch their family be destroyed. Andy taught us that leverage is everything. We need leverage.”
“Lazarus is their leverage,” Thomas pointed out. “They have our brother, which gives them power over us. How do we counter that?”
“By making the cost of holding him higher than the value of questioning him,” I said. “By demonstrating that keeping Lazarus means putting their entire family at risk. By forcing them to choose between intelligence gathering and the safety of their children.”
I could see the wheels turning in their minds now, ancient creatures who’d survived centuries by being ruthless and adaptable beginning to understand the shape of what I was proposing.
“We need to be careful,’ Victoria warned. “These aren’t just any werewolves. This is an Alpha family with pack resources and

supernatural allies. If we push too hard, we might trigger a response we can’t handle.”

“Then we don’t push hard,” I said. “We push smart. We identify their weaknesses, we exploit their emotional attachments, and we
create scenarios where they have to react rather than act. We make them dance to our tune instead of the other way around.”
“Specifically?” Helena pressed.
“What’s the actual plan here, Jerome? Because philosophizing about leverage is all well and good, but we need actionable steps.”
She was right, of course. For all my centuries of experience, for all my strategic thinking, I needed to translate theory into practice. I needed a plan that would work against opponents who’d already proven capable of outmaneuvering us.
I took a moment to organize my thoughts, to consider all the variables and possibilities and risks. Then I began to speak, laying out the strategy that would either save our operation or destroy us completely.
“Phase one,” I said, “is reconnaissance and preparation. We need complete information about the pack’s defenses, about the family’s routines, about any weaknesses in their security. We also need to prepare countermeasures for the light prison technology-either ways to disable it or ways to operate effectively even under illumination.”
“That could take weeks,” Marcus protested. “Maybe months. Every day we wait is another day those boys have to prepare additional defenses, another day the pack has to solidify their protection.”
