Chapter 416

ZADE

Too soon, it was time.

I stood, and everyone else immediately quieted, recognizing the shift. “Strike teams, gear up. We leave in fifteen minutes.”

The organized chaos of preparation filled the next quarter hour. Warriors checking weapons one final time, communication equipment being tested, last-minute adjustments to the plan as new intelligence came in from scouts.

Lyn pulled me aside just before we headed out, his hands framing my face as he looked at me with an intensity that made my chest tight.

“Come back to me,” he said simply. “Whatever happens, whatever it costs-come back.”

“I will,” I promised, meaning it with everything I had.

“And Zade? If you die stupidly, I’m going to find a way to resurrect you just so I can kill you again myself.”

“Noted,” I said, then kissed him like it might be the last time, memorizing the taste of him and the feel of his magic humming under his skin.

When I finally pulled away, I saw Xenois saying goodbye to Lumina and the kids, saw the barely controlled fear on all their faces as they tried to be brave.

This was what we were fighting for. These people, these families, these connections that made life worth living.

“Ready?” Xenois asked, his voice steady despite the emotions I could see swirling in his eyes.

“Ready,” I confirmed.

We headed out into the gathering dusk, eight warriors moving with coordinated purpose toward vehicles that would take

us to the staging area. From there, we’d split into our teams and approach the Silvercrest nest from three different directions.

The drive was tense and quiet. Rivers checked equipment obsessively. Marcus reviewed the tactical map for the dozenth

time. Theo meditated, centering himself for combat.

And I thought about Lyn. About the life we were building together. About the radical, terrifying, wonderful decision to

love someone so completely that their safety mattered more than your own.

Chapter 416

We reached the staging area as the sun touched the horizon, painting the sky in shades of orange and purple. Beautiful and ominous at the same time.

Xenois gathered all three teams for a final briefing.

“Remember the objectives,” he said quietly. “Primary: extract Samuel and Silvia alive. Secondary: neutralize threats to allow extraction. Tertiary: gather intelligence about Jerome’s coalition. We’re not here to start a war-we’re here to end a hostage situation. Get in. get them out, go home.”

“And if Jerome tries to stop us? Marcus asked.

“Then we go through him, Xenois said flatly. “But we don’t pursue beyond the immediate threat. We’re not here for revenge—we’re here for rescue. Everyone clear?”

Nods all around.

“Good. Teams to your positions. We move on my signal. And everyone?” He looked at each of us in turn. “Thank you. For risking yourselves for my family. I won’t forget it.”

“That’s what pack does,” I said simply. “We show up for each other.”

The teams split up, each heading toward their designated approach point. I led Team One-me, Rivers, Marcus, and Theo -toward the main entrance of the Silvercrest nest.

As we moved through the forest, using supernatural speed and stealth to cover ground quickly, I felt my wolf rise to the surface. Not taking over, but lending strength and senses. Making me faster, stronger, more dangerous.

This was what I was made for. Leading warriors into battle. Protecting pack and family. Being the shield between my

Ople and threats.

We reached our position and settled in to wait for Xenois’s signal. I could see the main entrance now-a large cave

opening with guards visible even from this distance. Nightwalkers, at least three of them, probably more inside.
