Reborn From Regret A Second Chance at Luna’s Heart

Chapter 50

I felt a chill run down my spine as I narrowed my eyes in confusion and a bit of fear. “What do you mean?”

“Oh, nothing specific, darling. Just that life is short, and we should all pursue happiness where we find it. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

She hung up before I could respond, leaving me staring at my phone in confusion. Had she somehow heard about Sophia? About what

happened today?

“Your mother’s subtle as always, Lumina said without turning around. “Let me guess – she reminded you that being your wife was

just a mere duty and that you shouldn’t let duty keep you from pursuing happiness with someone else.”

“How did you-

*Because she’s been saying the same thing to me for years. Telling me that I should step aside gracefully if you ever find someone

more suitable to take care of you, someone that you can love. Someone who could give you what you really need.”

I felt sick. “Lumina, that’s not-

“Isn’t it? Be honest with yourself, Xenois. Isn’t part of you relieved to have an excuse to question our marriage? Isn’t part of you already imagining what it would be like to be with someone else? Someone who isn’t me?

She finally turned to face me, and I saw tears streaming down her cheeks. “Someone like Sophia Kingston and her charming son Riley. Someone who could slide into my place so easily and make you forget you ever had to settle for me.”

‘I never settled for you.”

‘Didn’t you? Then why does it feel like you’re looking for reasons to leave me? Why does it feel like you’re already gone?”

I opened my mouth to deny it, but the words wouldn’t come. Because deep down, in a place I didn’t want to acknowledge, I knew she was right. Something had changed between us, and I had no idea when it started or how it took root.

The scent thing was getting worse. Standing this close to her, I could barely detect her at all. It was like she was fading away, becoming, less present in my life.

‘I need time to think,” I said finally, as I didn’t want this to lead to questions that I had no idea how to answer.

*About everything that happened today. About what it means for our family

She nodded, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand. “Take all the time you need. But remember, Xenois – while you’re thinking, she’s planning. And when you finally figure out that Sophia is the monster in this situation, it may be too late to save any of us.”

With that, she walked past me toward the door.

“I’ll sleep in the guest room tonight. I think we both need some space.”

After she left, I sat down on the chair that was by our bedroom window and stared out at the backyard where, just hours ago, I

watched two little boys play together.

Everything seemed easy then

Now I felt like I was standing at the edge of a cliff, and each choice I make may end up with me falling with no way out.

My phone buzzed with a text message from Sophia: “Thank you for taking care of us today. I hope you’re okay. We’re here if you need

anything.”

I stared at the message for a long time, and despite everything that had happened, I felt happy seeing her text message.

Maybe Lumina was right about our bond.

Maybe I was already gone.
