Chapter 506
LUMINA
‘She’s a necromancer,” I said. “But not the kind from stories. She exists in spaces between life and death, time and causality. If she has the power to send me back once, she probably has the power to undo everything I’ve changed.”
We sat in silence for a long moment, both processing the magnitude of what I’d just revealed.
“So we have a limited amount of time, Xenois said finally. “Until Jerome is defeated and Janice comes to collect her debt. After that- he couldn’t finish
the sentence.
“After that, I pay whatever price she demands,” I said quietly. “And we hope it doesn’t destroy what we’ve built.
“What if the price is your life? Xenois asked, his voice raw. “What if she wants you to die, to balance the cosmic scales or whatever necromancers
believe in?”
“Then I die,” I said simply. “Xenois, I’ve already died once. In that other timeline, cursing you with my last breath. If dying again is the price for saving Ollie, for giving you back your autonomy, for bringing Riley and Lake home-then it’s worth it.”
“No, Xenois said firmly. “No, we’re not accepting that. We’ll find another way. We’ll-
“There is no other way,” I interrupted gently. “Janice made that clear. She’s coming to collect, and the only choice I have is whether to accept it gracefully or have her unmake everything and return us to that nightmare timeline.”
“Then we fight her, Xenois insisted. “Get Zade, get every alpha in the coalition, find someone who understands necromancy and-”
“And what?’ I challenged. “Fight a being who exists outside normal reality? Who has the power to manipulate time itself? Xenois, we can’t win that fight. The best we can do is hope that whatever she takes is something we can survive losing.”
He pulled his chair closer, taking both my hands despite the IVs. ‘I can’t lose you again. I’ve already lost you once in a timeline I barely remember experiencing. I can’t- his voice broke, “I can’t watch you die and know it’s because I failed you.”
“You didn’t fail me,” I said firmly, ‘You were controlled by Sophia. That wasn’t your fault. And in this timeline, you’ve been everything I needed. Everything Ollie needed. You came back to us. That’s what matters.”
“But if I lose you to this debt-”
“Then you keep going.” I said. “You raise our boys. You protect the pack. You build the progressive future we’ve been fighting for. You live, Xenois. That’s all I’ve ever wanted-for you and our children to have full, happy lives.”
‘Not without you,’ he whispered.
I pulled him closer until our foreheads touched. If it comes to that-if Janice takes my life as payment you have to promise me you’ll keep going. Don’t
let grief destroy you like it destroyed me in that other timeline, Learn from our mistakes. Be better.”
“I promise, Xenois said, though his voice was thick with tears. But I’m also promising that we’ll fight this. Find a way to negotiate with Janice, to offer alternative payment, to–
“To do something, I finished. “I know. And we will try. But Xenois I made him meet my eyes. “We also need to prepare for the possibility that trying
isn’t enough. That some debts can’t be negotiated or avoided.”

Chapter 506
He nodded slowly, accepting the terrible truth even as he clearly hated it.
“How long do we have?’ he asked.
“Until Jerome is defeated,” I said. “Janice said she’s letting me finish that conflict first. So we focus on that. We execute the offensive operations, we
dismantle his coalition, we protect our family from his attacks. And then-
“And then we deal with whatever comes next, Xenois finished.
“Together, I added. “No more secrets. No more carrying this alone. Whatever happens with Janice, we face it as partners.”
“Together, Xenois agreed.
He climbed onto the hospital bed beside me, carefully arranging himself so he wasn’t disturbing any of the medical equipment. I nestled against him, feeling his solid warmth, his steady heartbeat, his presence grounding me despite the fear of what was coming.
“I love you,” I said quietly. “In both timelines, through death and resurrection and cosmic debts-I love you. That’s the one constant through everything.”
“I love you too, Xenois said. “More than anything. More than pack leadership or alpha authority or any responsibility I carry. You and our boys-you’re
everything.
We lay together in the hospital bed, holding each other while monitors beeped and the night deepened outside.
Somewhere out there, Jerome was planning more attacks. Somewhere beyond that, Janice was waiting to collect her debt. The future was full of battles
and unknown costs and terribie possibilities.
But right now, in this moment, I was alive. My mate held me. My children were safe. My family existed in this timeline instead of the nightmare version
I’d escaped.
Whatever payment Janice demanded, whatever price I had to pay-it had been worth it.
