Chapter 511
LUMINA
I sat in Xenois’s office the next evening, surrounded by the people who’d become our inner circle, and tried to find the words to explain something I’d
been keeping secret for six months.
The room felt too small despite its spacious dimensions. Zade and Lyn occupied the couch, Rivers standing protectively behind them with Thorne mirroring his position near Xenois’s desk. Lynn had claimed one of the armchairs, her healer’s eyes already assessing me with concern. Silvia and Samuel stood by the window, their expressions carefully neutral but radiating the kind of tension that came from knowing something significant was about to be
revealed.
“Thank you all for coming, Xenois started, his hand finding mine where we sat together behind his desk. ‘We-Lumina and I-need to tell you something. Something that explains the heart attack and a lot of other things that probably haven’t made sense.”
“You’re scaring us,” Lyn observed quietly. His gravity manipulation abilities were probably picking up on the emotional weight in the room, the way tension made the very air feel heavier.
“Good,” I said, finding my voice. Because this is terrifying. And you all deserve to know the truth before-before whatever’s coming arrives.”
‘Whatever’s coming?” Silvia repeated, her alpha instincts immediately focusing on the potential threat. “Are we talking about Jerome or something else?”
‘Something else,” I confirmed. “Something much more dangerous than Jerome could ever be.”
I took a deep breath, feeling Xenois’s hand squeeze mine in support. We’d rehearsed this conversation last night, trying to find the right way to explain impossible truths to people whose trust we needed.
“Six months ago, I began slowly, “I died.”
The room went completely silent. Even the ambient sounds of the pack house seemed to fade as everyone processed what I’d just said.
“What do you mean, you died?’ Lynn asked carefully, her medical training probably making her question the literal accuracy of that statement.
‘I mean my heart stopped,” I said. “My body shut down. I died in Xenois’s arms after watching our son-Ollie-collapse and die in a town square. It was – my voice caught despite my preparation, it was the worst moment of my existence. Dying knowing I’d lost my child. Dying cursing my mate for not being there when we needed him most.”
“But you’re alive,” Rivers pointed out, clearly confused. “And Ollie is alive. So either you’re speaking metaphorically or-
“Or I’m talking about a different timeline, I finished. ‘One that no longer exists because I was given a second chance to change it.”
I watched comprehension dawn on different faces at different speeds. Lynn’s eyes widened with shock. Zade leaned forward with intense interest. Thorne looked between Xenois and me like he was reassessing everything he thought he knew.
But it was Silvia who spoke first, her voice deadly calm. Explain. Everything. Now.”
So I did.
I told them about that other timeline-the one where Sophia’s magical control over Xenois had gone unbroken for too long. Where I’d watched helplessly as my mate spent more time with Riley and Sophia than with his own family. Where Ollie had gotten progressively sicker while I begged for help
that never came.

ppp.
‘I tried everything,” I said, the memories still painful despite being from a reality that technically never happened. “Better doctors, different treatments, specialists from multiple territories. But Xenois wouldn’t help me access his alpha connections. He was too focused on Riley, too controlled by Sophia to see
that his legitimate son was dying.”
“That wasn’t his fault, Samuel said, his voice rough. If Sophia had him under control magic-”
I know, I interrupted. I understand that now. But in that timeline, I didn’t know about the magic. I just saw my mate choosing another woman’s child
over our dying son.”
Xenois’s hand tightened on mine, and I could feel guilt radiating through our bond even though I’d told him repeatedly this wasn’t his fault.
“And then? Lyn prompted gently.
And then Ollie collapsed, I continued. “In the middle of the town square, during what was supposed to be his birthday celebration. His heart just- stopped. He was five years old and his heart gave out from an illness that could have been treated if we’d caught it earlier.”
I had to pause, the phantom memory of holding my dying son still vivid enough to make breathing difficult.
“I called Xenois seventeen times,” I said quietly. “Left messages. Sent the beta to find him. But he was unreachable because he was celebrating Riley’s birthday with Sophia. His phone was off. He wouldn’t respond. And our son died in my arms while I watched my mate’s face on a billboard, smiling and happy with another child.”
Jesus, Thorne breathed.
It broke something in me, I admitted. “Fundamentally, irreparably broke me. I went home. Sat in our bedroom. Waited for Xenois to finally come home hours later. And when he arrived, when he asked where Ollie was- I felt tears starting despite my determination to get through this without falling apart,
-I told him. Watched his world shatter. Watched him try to deny it, to find some way it couldn’t be true.”
“And then you died,” Lynn said softly.
