And if a show like this could help more people understand–or even come to like–real holistic medicine, that wouldn’t be a bad thing at all.
Noelle exited the video. Almost immediately, a message from Alina popped up.
Alina wrote, “Noey, are you free tomorrow afternoon? I was thinking we could go shopping.”
The smile on Noelle’s face faded.
Ever since she returned to the Guzmans, Alina had been subtly avoiding her.
Now, she was reaching out on her own.
There were things between them that probably did need to be said, sooner or later.
Noelle replied, “Okay. See you tomorrow.”
The next afternoon.
Noelle went to the mall.
When she arrived, Alina was already there… and so was Mary.
“Charlotte…” Mary froze the moment she saw Noelle, her expression tightening with nervousness.
Noelle’s voice stayed cool. “Mrs. Guzman, my name is Noelle. Not Charlotte.”
Mary realized her mistake at once and hurried to explain. “Sorry. I just got used to it. Before you were lost, your father and I named you Charlotte…”
“But my name is Noelle now.”
Alina quickly stepped in. “Mom, Noelle has another name now. Let’s call her Noey.”
Afraid of upsetting Noelle, Mary nodded again and again. “Yes, yes, Noey! I’ll call you Noey. I tried calling you before, but you didn’t pick up, so I asked Alina to contact you. You’ve been back for a while now, and I haven’t even taken you shopping yet. How about 1 buy you some clothes today?
“And about last time-”
“Let’s go.”
Noelle cut her off and walked straight into the mall.
“Okay!”
Seeing that Noelle was willing to shop with her, Mary lit up. She immediately let go of Alina’s hand and hurried after her

Mary clearly wanted to make it up to Noelle. Whatever Noelle glanced at, even briefly, Mary told Alina to pay for it.
Alina trailed behind them, arms full of shopping bags, already struggling under the weight.
Noelle turned back and glanced at her.
“That’s enough. We don’t need more.”
“No, it’s not enough,” Mary said excitedly. “Alina can carry it. If you like it, just buy it!”
Noelle said evenly, “I’m hungry.”
“Then let’s eat!” Mary looked at her eagerly. “What do you feel like? How about seafood?”
At the word seafood, Noelle frowned and looked at Alina. “If I remember right, Alina’s allergic.”
“She’ll be fine. She just won’t eat it,” Mary answered without hesitation.

Alina’s smile stiffened for a moment, but she still said gently, “It’s okay. Today’s about you, Noey. We’ll go with what you like.”
In the end, Noelle didn’t choose seafood. She picked an upscale steakhouse instead.
When they sat down, Mary insisted on pulling Noelle to sit beside her, placing Alina across the table.
While ordering, Mary enthusiastically pointed at the lobster and king crab on the menu, showing them to Noelle. She seemed to think Noelle still wanted seafood but had held back because of Alina. “Noey, look at this–air–flown, super fresh! And this caviar
too…”
“Mom,” Alina reminded softly, “I’m allergic to seafood.”
Mary’s hand paused for a second. She didn’t even look away from Noelle, just waved it off casually. “Then order something else. Steak, salad–there are plenty of things you can eat. Noey, look at this…”
She flipped the menu straight to the seafood mains and kept recommending them enthusiastically, as if Alina’s allergy were nothing more than background noise.
Noelle lifted her eyes and glanced across the table.
