“You really can’t judge people by their looks,” someone sneered. “Alina always acted so high and mighty. Turns out she’s rotten inside.”
“Right? She abandoned her own sister when she was five. Who does that? No wonder she’s so ruthless in business”
“And she’s supposed to run Guzman Group? If you ask me, the Guzmans are doomed.”
Their voices grew louder, dripping with gossip and cruel guesses.
Yvette tightened her grip on the glass in her hand. Her knuckles turned pale.
“Yvette…” Madeline tugged at her sleeve, worried.
Yvette suddenly stood up. Before anyone could react, she grabbed the glass of ice water in front of her and flung it at the girls at the
next table.
“Arghhh!”
They screamed as cold water splashed across their faces. Both jumped up, their expensive dresses soaked.
“Yvette! Are you crazy?” one of them shouted after recognizing her. “Why did you throw water at us? I’m calling the police!”
Yvette set the empty glass down calmly. Her voice was quiet but firm. “Because you don’t know how to keep your mouths shut. If hear you talking about Alina again, next time it won’t be water.”
“You’re unbelievable!” the girl snapped, though her voice wavered. “We’re just telling the truth!”
“The truth?” Yvette gave a cold smile. “Did you see it yourself? Or do you somehow know more than the Guzmans?” She leaned forward slightly. “Mind your own business. Stop acting like gossip reporters and spreading stories everywhere. And if you want to call the police, go ahead. I can afford the bill.”
With that, she turned away from the two shaking girls and looked at her sister. “Madeline, go home first. Or call the driver to pick you up. I’m going to the Guzman residence.”
Madeline was stunned by everything that had just happened. She nodded slowly.
Back in her room, Alina still sat there quietly. Her body had grown stiff and numb from staying in the same position for so long.
Her phone screen glowed in the dim room. A new message from Viola had just arrived. There was only one short line, but it was filled with cruel satisfaction.
“How does it feel to be hated by everyone? This is only the beginning.”
Alina slowly closed her eyes. She turned off the screen.
She had seen the hateful comments spreading everywhere online. She simply forced herself not to read them closely.
Even so, the cruel words still pierced her heart like needles.

She could already imagine it. Back in Kingstowne, those people who used to envy her and fear her were probably laughing behind her back right now, mocking her fall.
The door of the room slowly opened.
Alina didn’t turn around. She thought it was just another servant or elder.
Then a familiar voice spoke from behind her, filled with worry. “Alina.”
Alina’s body trembled. She slowly turned her head and saw Yvette standing at the doorway, in her hand was a small medical kit.
“Why are you here?” Alina asked. Her voice sounded dry and tired.
Yvette walked over and knelt beside her. When she saw Alina’s legs swollen and bruised from her own doing, she sighed softly with concern. “If I didn’t come now, your hands might be ruined.”
She opened the kit, took out some medicine and bandages, gently began treating Alina’s wound.
The cool cream touched her skin. It stung a little at first, but the burning numbness slowly eased.
Alina watched her friend’s focused face. Suddenly, a wave of emotion rushed up her throat.
Yvette spoke quietly while working. “I saw all the things people are saying online. It’s a mess. Most of it is nonsense.”
Alina pressed her lips together.
“I don’t know what’s really going on between you and Noelle. But the Alina I know…” She looked up and met Alina’s eyes, her voice calm but firm. “She’s the person who stepped forward when my family was at its worst and helped us get back on our feet.
“She’s the woman who is decisive in business, who knows right from wrong, and who never hurts innocent people.
“And she’s the one who may act tough and cold sometimes. Deep down, she cares more than anyone else.”
Yvette gently held Alina’s cold hand. “I’m really glad I have a friend like you.”
Those words were like a key. They unlocked the door Alina had been desperately holding up inside her heart.
