Lucas just grunted without giving it much thought. He smiled at Jaylee. “You really do have good taste. Noey always knows quality. If she picked it, it must be something special.”

Jaylee forced a smile that looked almost painful. Her voice was thin and dry. “Yes, thank you, Ms. Kain, for letting me have it…”

“Alright, have a seat,” Lucas said.

Lucas didn’t notice anything wrong. He stayed clueless. Sebastian, on the other hand, noticed something was off. He didn’t say anything, though. He helped Noelle sit down and told the butler to bring out dessert for her.

It was late in the day for breakfast, and Noelle had just gotten up. She had to be hungry. Lunch would take a while, so it made sense to give her something to eat now.

Noelle was hungry. She ignored Jaylee and started eating right away.

Jaylee sat nearby, restless. She kept sneaking glances at Noelle, watching her eat dessert so calmly, as if yesterday’s mess meant nothing.

That calm made Jaylee even more uneasy.

Her eyes darted around the room. Suddenly, she pressed her hand to her stomach and forced a pained expression. “Lucas… my stomach really hurts…”

Lucas blinked, about to say something, when Noelle cut in. Her tone was mild. “Your stomach hurts?”

Jaylee’s hope flickered. Her face twisted in fake pain. “Maybe I ate something bad this morning. I should probably just go home…”

“Go home for what?” Lucas cut her off, acting like it was obvious. “Noey’s a great doctor. Let her check you out.”

Jaylee froze.

Noelle set down her dessert and wiped her mouth. She looked straight at Jaylee, a hint of amusement in her eyes. “Perfect. Let me take a look.”

Jaylee wanted to refuse, but the words stuck in her throat. She watched Noelle come over and place cool, slender fingers on her

wrist.

Noelle’s touch was light but steady. Jaylee felt trapped, unable to move.

Noelle lowered her eyes, her face serious, as if she was checking Jaylee’s pulse. But Jaylee caught the faintest smirk at the corner of Noelle’s lips.

“Where does it hurt?” Noelle asked. Her voice sounded soft and caring.

Jaylee pushed through. “Just my stomach. Maybe it’s my digestion…”

Noelle nodded. “That’s easy. A few needles will fix it.”

“No, no, that’s fine!” Jaylee almost jumped. “It’s not as bad now…”

Noelle looked up, meeting her eyes. “Really? You were in so much pain a second ago. Are you sure you’re not faking it?”

Lucas leaned in with a lazy grin. “Don’t worry. Noey’s gentle with the needles. Let her do it. It’s better than going home and feeling worse later.”

Sebastian sat back on the couch, holding his coffee, silent. His eyes said he was enjoying the drama.

Jaylee was stuck. She could only grit her teeth and nod. “W–Well, thank you then, M–Ms Kain…”

Noelle pulled out her needles. Her movements were quick and practiced.

Jaylee felt a sharp sting in her stomach, then a rush of soreness and numbness.

Every sensation hit her at once. She wanted to cry out, but bit her lip instead. Tears welled up in her eyes.

After a while, Noelle put the needles away and asked, “Feel better?”

Jaylee nodded right away. “Much better…”

Noelle tucked the needles away and looked at Lucas. “Probably just something she ate. It’s nothing serious.”

Lucas nodded. “That’s good.”

Jaylee’s voice was faint. “Ms. Kain… I still don’t feel great. Could you help me upstairs so I can get some rest?”

Noelle glanced at her and nodded. “Sure.”

They went upstairs together.

Sebastian watched until Noelle disappeared around the corner, then settled back on the couch.

Lucas slouched into the cushions, picked up his phone, scrolled for a second, and set it down with a sigh.
