Chapter 485 Behind the Closed Door
There was no answer from inside.
Serena knocked again, a few more times. In the end, she gave up.
She leaned against the door and slowly slid down, sitting on the floor beside Lucas.
Her eyes were red, but she tried to sound tough,

“Noelle, I know you’re in there. I know you can hear me. You miss him, don’t you? I’ll help you find him. I’ll search everywhere, leaving no stone unturned. I’ll bring him back, I promise. Just come out and eat something, okay? It hurts me to see you like this.”
Her voice grew softer and softer, until it broke into a quiet sob.
Lucas looked at her and suddenly asked, “You haven’t eaten either, have you?”
Serena froze for a second. She didn’t answer.
Lucas took the now–cold grits from Gus and pushed them into her hands. “Eat.”
Serena stared at the bowl for a few seconds, then took a sip.
“It tastes awful,” she said.
“Well, duh. It’s cold.”
They sat there on the floor. One held a bowl and ate while the other leaned against the wall, lost in thought.
Neither of them spoke again.
After a while, steady footsteps
Came from the stairs.
Serena looked up and paused.
It was Darell.
He wore a dark gray coat. Tall and composed, he walked at an unhurried pace.
When he reached the door, he stopped. He didn’t knock. He didn’t speak. He just stood there, staring at the closed door.
His mismatched eyes looked deep in the dim hallway. Emotions churned inside them- worry, pain, and something harder to name.

Chapter 485 Behind the Closed Door
He stood still, like a statue.
Serena opened her mouth, wanting to say something. In the end, she swallowed her words.
Lucas watched him too. After a moment, he looked away.
Time passed, second by second.
Darell didn’t move. His eyes stayed fixed on the door.
His lips shifted slightly. He mouthed two words, so soft even he couldn’t hear them.
Then he turned and left.
At the stairs, he stopped and glanced back at the door.
Something in his eyes seemed to break.
Then he disappeared around the corner.
Day three, the hallway suddenly grew noisy.
Angus arrived, followed by his sons and grandsons.
He leaned on a cane, walking slowly, but his back was straight.
When he reached the door and saw it still closed his eyes turned red at once.
Angus opened his mouth, wanting to speak, but in the end, it became a long sigh.
“This girl…” His voice shook. “Why is she so stubborn?”
Brian stepped forward and knocked gently. “Noey, Grandpa’s here. Come out and talk to us, okay?”
No response.
Kenny stepped up next. “Girly, don’t do this to yourself. We’re all here. Whatever it is, we’ll face it together. We’re working on Sebastian’s situation too. Just come out and eat something, alright?”
Still nothing.
Lance sighed and waved to his nephews behind him.

Fabian said, “Noey, I found some top people–real pros. They’ll help us find Sebastian!”
One by one, the rest of the cousins called out,
Waylen shouted until his voice turned hoarse. “Noey! Please come out! We’re not leaving if you don’t!”
All seven cousins took turns yelling.
The hallway echoed with their voices, but the door remained close.
Lucas leaned against the wall, watching. A bitter smile tugged at his lips.
Serena crouched in the corner, hugging her knees, silent.
For three days, this was how they had called for Noelle. And still, she wouldn’t come out.
At last, Waylen was too tired to keep going. He stepped back, breathing hard.
