Just when she thought she was about to hit the bottom, her ankle was jerked tight.

A strong force from above yanked her falling body to a stop.

Mary’s eyes flew open.

She looked up.

Noelle was lying across the window, one hand locked around her ankle.

That hand was still bleeding.

Mary’s throat felt tight.

Noelle’s face was pale as paper. Sweat covered her forehead. Her lips had no color.

But she didn’t let go.

“Don’t move…” her voice was weak, like it could break at any second, yet it carried a force no one could refuse. “I’ll pull you up.”

Tears burst from Mary’s eyes.

“Noey… let go…” her voice shook. “I’m not worth it… I’m sorry…”

“Shut up.”

Noelle gritted her teeth and pulled.

But her strength was fading.

She had lost too much blood.

Her grip on Mary’s ankle began to weaken.

“Nocy!” Mary screamed. “Let go! Please, let go!”

She just stared down at Mary’s tear–streaked face, jaw tight, refusing to give up.

Another hand reached in.

It was Jasper.

He rushed to the window and grabbed Mary’s other leg, pulling hard.

Together, they dragged her back from the edge.

Mary slammed onto the window ledge, then rolled into the room, collapsing on the floor, shaking all over.

She gasped for air. Tears and blood covered her face.

A scream cut through the night.

Viola’s body dropped rapidly.

Sharp metal pierced through her stomach and chest. Blood splashed across the ground.

Her eyes stayed open, fixed on the figures at the third–floor window.

There was still anger and resentment in them, but life slipped away. She died with her eyes wide open.

Jasper stood at the window, looking down at the body below.

He looked at Viola’s lifeless eyes.

That was his sister.

His only real sister.

And this was how it ended.

He closed his eyes and turned away.

Behind him, Noelle had collapsed onto the floor.

Her face was pale. Her lips were colorless. She looked like she had been soaked in blood.

The dagger was still stuck in her left arm. Her shoulder was still bleeding. A dark red pool had formed on

the floor.

Mary crawled to her and pressed hard on the wound, crying so hard she couldn’t speak.

Her whole body shook. Tears wouldn’t stop. “Noey… Noey…” she kept repeating.

From the hallway, footsteps and shouts rushed closer.

“Move! Third floor!”

“Block all exits!”

Gunner and his team burst in.

They froze when they saw the scene.

Then Serena and Lucas rushed in right after.

“Noey!!”

Lucas’s voice broke into a shout.

He ran over and grabbed her, his eyes turning red when he saw all the blood.

“Are you crazy?! Do you know how much blood you’ve lost?! Do you even care about your life?!”

Serena was already on the phone, speaking fast. “Ambulance! Now! Abandoned building on Birch Street, third floor! Severe blood loss–gunshot and knife wounds! Hurry!”

She hung up and rushed over, pressing on another wound.

“Noelle, look at me. Stay awake. Do you hear me?”

Noelle looked at her. Then at Lucas. Then at Mary, still shaking beside her.
