The area fell silent for a moment.

The examiner froze before lowering his head to carefully inspect the herb again. He lifted it to smell it, then broke off a small piece and chewed it lightly. His expression immediately changed.
He looked up at Noelle, then at Shirley. His lips moved, but no words came out.
Shirley’s face alternated between red and white as she gritted her teeth. “Who the hell do you think you are? You think you’re qualified to correct me?”
Noelle laughed lightly. “So if you’re wrong, nobody’s allowed to correct you? Should everyone just sit around until you kill somebody with the wrong medicine?”
“Watch it!”
Seeing the two about to argue, the examiner quickly cleared his throat and stepped in. “And you are?”
“Recommended by the Covingtons. My last name is Kain,” Noelle answered.
The examiner nodded and was just about to speak when Shirley coldly interrupted, “The Covingtons? Since when does a small- time family like that deserve to stand beside the Duncans?”
She looked directly at the examiner, her voice rising several degrees. “Since when are outsiders allowed to interrupt Medicine Department exams? Get her out of here. I don’t want to see her.”
The examiner hesitated.
The Duncans were the most powerful of the Four Great Families, and Shirley was the Duncans’ heiress. He couldn’t afford to offend
her.
He glanced apologetically at Noelle before finally speaking. “Ms. Kain, why don’t you wait off to the side for now? Once Ms. Duncan finishes-”
“No need to wait.” Shirley cut him off, arms crossed and a smug smile hanging from her lips. “Tell her to get lost. This isn’t a place just anyone can enter,”
“What are you standing there for? I told you to leave. Didn’t you hear me?”
Noelle stood there quietly watching her, her gaze calm enough to make it feel like she was looking down at an insect Something about that look made Shirley uncomfortable. Why was this woman staring at her like that, as though she were some superior figure looking down from above? Shirley’s face darkened, and just as she was about to speak again.
“Help! Somebody help! Someone collapsed!”
A sharp scream suddenly rang out nearby.
Everyone turned at once. A young man had fallen to the ground, his face turning bluish green, lips purple, body convulsing violently while white foam spilled from the corners of his mouth. He shook nonstop like he was being electrocuted.
The surrounding crowd immediately stumbled backward in fear.

“H-he’s poisoned!”

The examiner’s expression changed sharply as he rushed over and crouched beside the man. After checking him briefly, his brows knotted tightly. “Chaotic pulse. Dilated pupils. This is aconitine poisoning. What did he eat?”
“H-he tried tasting one of the herbs over there…” someone nearby answered nervously. “He said he wanted to test the medicinal properties himself…”
The examiner’s face turned even uglier.
Aconitine poisoning struck fast and hard. There wasn’t any specific antidote, and none of the herbs present could counter it
He clenched his teeth. “Quick, carry him away and find a doctor!”
“It’s too late.” Another examiner beside him shook his head. “Without treatment within half an hour, aconitine poisoning is fatal. The doctors are farther up the mountain. By the time he’s carried there, he’ll already be dead.”
The surrounding crowd exchanged uneasy looks. “So what do we do?” someone whispered. “Just stand here and watch him die?”
Shirley stepped backward two paces and covered her nose with a handkerchief, frowning in disgust. “He tasted random herbs himself. Who’s supposed to blame for that? Take him away already. Don’t hold up the exams.”
The examiner hesitated before preparing to call someone over, but one figure had already stepped toward the collapsed young
man.
Noelle crouched beside him and pressed two fingers to his pulse before lifting his eyelids to examine his eyes. Her fingers moved to the side of his neck.
‘What are you doing?” the examiner frowned. “Do you even know medicine?”
Noelle ignored him. She pulled out a needle from her sleeve, its surface flashing under the sunlight.
Pinching the needle between her fingers, she aimed for a pressure point near the young man’s chest and struck instantly.
‘You’ve lost your mind!” The examiner’s expression changed dramatically. “You can’t use needle therapy on aconitine poison Noelle’s second needle had already fallen, piercing the point below the man’s throat.
Her fingers gently twisted the end of the needle, every movement fast and terrifyingly steady, like she’d performed this procedure countless times before.
The surrounding crowd stared in complete shock
“T-that technique…”
The examiner’s eyes widened slowly, his words dying in his throat, like he’d just seen a ghost
He’d worked in the Nightfall Circle’s Medicine Department for more than ten years and had seen countless doctors, but this needle therapy method existed only in ancient texts as far as he knew
It was a long-lost detoxification needle art rumored to draw poison out of the body itself. He’d believed nobody alive still knew it
