Chapter 62 The Auction Begins

Serena had already looked into Sebastian’s past. He lost both parents at the age of ten. Not long after that, he became disabled in both legs. He was driven out of Riverdale, and everyone believed his life was over. People thought he would fall apart, fade away, and won’t live long.
But he did not. Not only did he survive, but he also rose again in Riverdale. He built his own power and turned the Menzie Group into the strongest company in the city.
What scared Serena the most was this–according to her investigation, this was only the surface.
Sebastian’s real background ran much deeper, and it was something she still could not uncover.
“We just ran into each other by chance,” Noelle said calmly.
“That’s good,” Serena replied, clearly relieved. “Stay away from him. You scared me. You’re both from Riverdale. I thought you might have gotten involved with him.”
She stopped talking about Sebastian and moved on to business. “Rex has a friend at the auction house,” Serena said. “He asked for you. The Wanderroot you want will definitely be up for auction tonight. But I haven’t asked you, why do you need that herb? And why so urgently?”
“I need to save someone,” Noelle said. “Someone very important to me.”
“Very important?” Serena narrowed her eyes, sensing something off. “Noelle, you’re hiding something. Don’t tell me you have a boyfriend now?”
“No.”
Noelle shook her head. She didn’t have a boyfriend. She had a husband. Haha!
Serena thought about it and nodded. That made sense. Noelle had never been the type to fall for men. Her heart had always been with the Kains. She had worked herself to the bone to push them forward. They were already one step into Kingstowne’s elite circle, and then they ruined it themselves.
Thinking of that made Serena laugh. “Oh, right,” she said. “I heard you told Harlan to hand the Easthel project to Jasper. How did you know that project had problems? Back then, it was a key project. I thought you had gone soft on the Kains. But just a few days ago, I got insider news. That project is bad news. Jasper is going to lose everything he put into it.”
Jasper would not be proud for long. He had poured almost all his money into it. Bankruptcy was soon to be coming.
Noelle smiled slightly. She had lived this life once before. If she knew nothing at all, then what was the point of being reborn?
She did not stay long. She was worried Sebastian might look for her, so she made an excuse and slipped away, heading back to the private room.
“Noelle?!” Lucas was standing at the door. When he saw her come out from the other side of the hallway, he froze. “Didn’t you go to the restroom? Why are you coming from that direction?”
Noelle stared ahead, words failing her.
“I’m here for the first time,” she said. “Can’t I walk around? Why are you standing here like a statue?”

“Don’t wander around,” Lucas said with a frown. “If you want to explore the place, let Primo or the others go with you. The rooms over there belong to Alliance 749. Those people are dangerous. If they did something to you, we wouldn’t even make it in time to help”
Noelle was speechless.
Alliance 749 was not a gang, okay?
Lucas grew more annoyed the more he thought about it. He had heard Serena was here and even went over to show goodwill, hoping to meet her, but he didn’t even managed to get close.
The bodyguards stopped him and said their boss was present today. No visitors allowed.
The leader of Alliance 749 was always a mystery. No one even knew if the leader was a man or a woman. That only made Lucas more curious. He talked until his mouth was dry but still couldn’t get in.
If it weren’t for finding the miracle healer, he wouldn’t have bothered with them at all.
Lucas looked upset as he ushered Noelle back into the room. The auction was about to begin.
Inside a private room on the fourth floor.
Alina sat upright in her chair, calmly sipping tea.
One of her aides brought over the list of the auction guests.
“Ms. Guzman, this is the list of guests attending tonight’s auction. Please take a look.”
Alina smiled lightly. “This is the Hallers‘ home ground. You can review it yourselves. I’m only a guest today.”
“Mr. Roman is stuck in Riverdale and couldn’t make it back on time,” the aide replied respectfully. “You are the most honored guest. Of course this should be shown to you.”
Alina didn’t refuse again. She took the list and scanned it briefly. When she saw Alliance 749, her gaze paused for a moment. She hadn’t expected them to show up.
“Make sure security is tight,” she said calmly. “There must be no trouble.”
“Yes, Ms. Guzman.”
7:00 p.m.
The auction began right on time.
