The auctioneer was just about to bring down the gavel when someone rushed onto the stage and leaned in to whisper a few words in his ear.
The auctioneer paused. He waved the man away, then looked toward Sebastian’s private room with an apologetic expression. “I’m very sorry, sir,” he said. “The owner of the Wanderroot has made a request. She would like to meet you in private to disco something. If you can agree to her condition, she is willing to give you the Wanderroot for free. But if you refuse, she who sell it at all.
“She is currently in Room 401 on the fourth floor. If you’re willing, our staff can take you there right away.”
Sebastian’s voice turned cold. “This auction house has been operating for many years. I’ve never heard of rules being changed after an item is already on the block. Isn’t this against procedure?”
Lucas let out a sharp laugh. “We’ve been bidding for ages. If she had conditions, why didn’t she say so earlier? Now it’s ‘meet me or no deal‘? What is this, a joke?”
The auctioneer bowed slightly again. “I truly apologize. This is a special case. May I ask if it would be convenient for you to go upstairs and meet the seller? Please rest assured, we will fully protect your privacy and safety.”
Sebastian and Lucas both looked unhappy. Anyone would be annoyed by a last–minute rule change like this.
Noelle was upset too.
But to abandon the Wanderroot? No, she had to get it.
No matter who the seller was, she had to meet her.
She turned to Sebastian. “Hubby, I’ll go up and take a look. We’ve already come this far. It won’t take long. Let me hear what she wants first.”
The Hallers Auction House was known for its strict security. Since the seller was staying on the fourth floor, she was clearly no ordinary person. Even so, Sebastian was still uneasy.
Seeing how determined Noelle was, he said, “I’ll go with you.”
“Okay!”
Noelle smiled, her eyes curving happily.
Lucas followed along as well.
Primo and Duo, of course, came too.
A staff member led them upstairs to the fourth floor. When they reached the door of Room 401, Noelle was about to knock, but Sebastian stopped her.
“Wait.”
He reached into his pocket and took out a veil, handing it to her. It was the same one she used when she pretended to be Dr. Kain.

“Put this on before you go in,” he said. “We don’t know who’s inside. Better to be careful.”
Noelle didn’t take it. “Hubby, you put it on for me.”
She crouched down beside his legs and looked up at him. Her eyes were bright and full of trust.

Sebastian paused for a moment, his fingers tightening around the veil. Then, he unfolded it, gently covering her face. He tied a small knot behind her head, careful and neat.
“We’ll stay outside,” he said softly. “If anything feels wrong, call us right away.”
“Okay!”
Noelle smiled with her eyes. She leaned forward and kissed Sebastian’s chin through the veil. “I’ll go in first, honey.”
With that, she pushed the door open and walked inside.
The moment she stepped in, the smile in her eyes vanished. Her expression turned cool and alert.
Inside the spacious private room sat two women.
One wore a sharp business suit. Her short hair was neatly cut, and she looked smart and capable, the type who ran business companies.
The other wore a beige dress. Her long hair fell loosely down her back, and deep exhaustion filled her eyes.
“Please, have a seat.”
The woman in the suit poured coffee and gave Noelle a polite nod. As Noelle approached, she handed her a cup. “Don’t be nervous. Have some coffee. We mean no harm.”
Noelle glanced at the cup, raised an eyebrow, and sat across from her.
She took the coffee and spoke calmly. “Thank you.”
Alina’s hand paused slightly on the teapot.
That voice…
It was her.
The lovely young woman who had stood up for Sebastian at the restaurant.
