“Alright. Now that I know how you feel, I can check out the ferocious beast imprisoned in the back mountain with peace of mind now.”

Rokky took several deep breaths and smacked his tail again and again. How mortifying it’d be if this keeps slipping out whenever I lose control!

But when his hand brushed against the overheated tip of his tail, he still couldn’t help lingering on the sensation for a moment before quickly catching up to Annelise.

“Ms. Crawford, sweetie, you have to be careful. Don’t leave my side.”

“Got it!”

This time, along the journey, Annelise could sense that Rokky had loosened up quite a bit. And as they walked, she’d drop any corpse of ferocious beasts they encountered, filling up the basket quickly. She even planned on how to make them delicious once they were home, so much so that her mates’ eyes would light up.

By nightfall, Annelise and Rokky reached the source of the roaring sounds. It was a sunken hollow surrounded by several small hills at the back of the mountain.

Many females from the same tribe were already coming back up from below.

“I can’t do it,” someone said. “One look at its bloody maw and I just can’t bring myself to pick it up. I’m giving up.”

“I’m not that desperate to be the saintess anyway. Let’s head back,” said another.

“Oh my god, my legs went weak just standing in front of that thing,” another female gasped. “But Clara seems to still be over there, waiting for a chance.”

“Of course she is,” someone replied. “She’s the chief’s daughter. She’s definitely going to fight for the spot.”

Annelise stopped one of the females and asked, “Excuse me-have you all seen it already? The ferocious beast that’s being imprisoned…”

“Annelise, I really advise you not to go after that tooth either. You’re living well right now- getting hurt over one lousy tooth just isn’t worth it.”

It turned out the beast was bound by four chains locking its limbs, with an additional chain anchored deep into the mountain itself. It emerged from below and fastened around the beast’s thick neck.

This kind of imprisonment, they said, had been set up a very long time ago with the help of ferocious beasts from another tribe. It wouldn’t have been possible with shifters alone.

Annelise nodded in response. “I see. I’ll go take another look.”

“Hey! Why are you still going?!”

Annelise only waved her hand in response.

Rokky followed closely beside her. The deeper they went toward the ring of small hills, the stronger the stench of blood and savage beastly aura became. But just as Annelise was about to head down, Rokky grabbed her arm. “Ms. Crawford, don’t get too close.”

Below them, the restrained beast was enormous, its fur long and thick, its overall shape resembling a bull. Sensing the presence of nearby shifters, it threw its head back and roared, the sound deafening. On the ground directly beneath its massive body lay several teeth it had shed long ago.

“No wonder they all said they didn’t want the tooth anymore,” Annelise murmured. “From this position, it really is hard to get.”

At that moment, Clara rose from the grass and walked toward Annelise. Annelise broke into a wide grin and asked, “Clara, don’t you want the beast tooth anymore?”

“I do,” Clara replied. “I’m waiting for my mate.”

Annelise’s smile widened. “Well then, you’ll be waiting a looooong time…”

After all, Clara’s brown-hided mate had a shattered ankle and could only limp along.

Clara merely shot Annelise’a sideways glance.

Before long, only Annelise and Rokky remained at the site. Rokky deliberately sniffed the air and said, “Ms. Crawford, there’s really no one else around anymore.”

Annelise clenched her fists and said decisively, “I have a plan. In a bit, I’ll go to the southeast side of the beast so it can see me. I’ll provoke it and draw its attack toward me. Based on how much it can move and the maximum range it has, if I stand on that rock, I can taunt it without actually getting eaten. While it’s focused on me, Rokky, you go underneath its body and grab one tooth for me.”

Rokky thought her plan was far too dangerous and shook his head repeatedly. “Sweetie, you’re being naughty again! It’s better if you don’t go down there at all-let me try instead. Let me! I’m agile, and at least I can run fast.”

Annelise laughed. “Relax, Rokky. Risk and reward go hand in hand. Besides, I want to take a good look at this beast-to see if it has pressure points, and whether I can use my needles.”

Annelise truly was a pioneer when it came to medical research. Humans, shifters, beasts-she wanted to study them all. And when she held those needles in her hand, there was a faint gleam in her eyes.

Rokky immediately shuddered. “Ms. Crawford… you… forget it. Even if I told you to wait here, you wouldn’t listen anyway.”

If she’s going to suddenly rush out later, it’s better to confirm the positions now, he thought.

Still, he said worriedly, “You have to be careful, Ms. Crawford.”

“Don’t worry!”

Annelise ran to the rock she’d calculated earlier and took her position there. Sure enough, once the chained beast caught her scent, it lunged sharply toward the rear right-straight toward where Annelise was standing.
