Chapter 97 Ring Ring
An earring jingle rang out through the house.
Snowball was seething inside. He was ready to sap.
How the hell was he lumped in with the rest of those supposed mates?
He should’ve had a special place in Anneliese’s heart. No one else came close.
But he couldn’t let a shred of that fury show.
His was about to cry.

Even the tip of his nose was turning red.
His voice trembled. “Anneliese… you really don’t believe me?”
“If you didn’t do anything, then stop acting scared.

egg and come lie down
Hudson rubbed his eyes, gave his egg another kiss, and nodded.
Tonight had freaked him out completely.
He’d never experienced anything this insane his whole life.
Not in this tribe. Not in this community. Not even back at his parents’ old house.
No matter how bad things got, nobody ever hurt kids.
Babies were rare and precious.
Anneliese led him inside and had him sit on the bed. His tails were still rigid.
One tail stayed tightly wrapped around the egg. The other two barely moved.
Instead of swaying, they curled inward like they were bracing for something worse.
“Ms. Crawford, why would anyone go after my baby?
“I’m really scared. I’ve never even heard of something like this before.”
Anneliese gave his shoulder a firm pat, trying to ease him.

Chapter 97 Ring Ring
After what went down with Adrian, her whole family felt like it was unraveling.
And the chief’s situation was still a mess.
It all had her on edge.
“Little fox, just be honest. Who do you think it was?”
“I don’t know. Maybe it was all just one big misunderstanding.
“I saw Snowball catch my egg. If he hadn’t, it would’ve broken.
“And Evan… he’d never hurt my baby. I just don’ see it.”
Anneliese couldn’t call it either.
She knew she’d pushed too hard earlier. Way too hard.

But when you don’t know who the threat is, the only move left is to pressure both sides, she thought.
Rokky was probably the only one who felt totally blindsided.
He’d been with her all night. He was the only on she could safely rule out.
She pressed her fingers to her chin and muttered, “The bunny’s still missing. That old creep who thinks he can play daddy vanished. And now this crap in my own d*mn house? If this weren’t the shifter world, I’d swear someone hexed me.”
She told Hudson to sleep on the inside against the wall. She’d take the outer spot.
That way, no one would get near him.
Hudson nodded. Once she lay down, her thoughts kept spinning.
Then that one line from the little fox came back to her again.
“I’ve never even heard of something like this before.”
Wait. That? He’d never heard of it?
Something clicked in her head that she had completely missed.
This was a half-feral tribe.
These shifters had barely moved past the loincloth stage.
They weren’t mentally evolved enough to even think about harming cubs.

At worst, they might scrap over who got to be the next saintess or whatever. But babies? Off- limits.
That was why Hudson had never seen anyone target a child before.
Anneliese shot straight up in bed.
It was Snowball.
No-she couldn’t say it was him for sure. But she was ninety-nine percent there.
That dumb*ss was following the wrong d*mn playbook.
She was supposed to be the villainess in this mess. What if he was trying to act out some villain-dude arc?
Or worse… maybe he was going full palace-intrigue.
She exhaled hard and clenched her fists.
Then she kicked off the covers and stood. “Little fox, go to sleep.”
“Huh? Ms. Crawford, where are you going?”
She didn’t answer. She marched to the door, threw it open, and shouted, “Evan! Get your *ss over here. I’m talking to everyone tonight, and no one’s getting out of it!”
Evan had been awake. When he heard his name his brows twitched.
Annelise had never called him that sternly before.
He hesitated for a beat, then walked over. She flashed him a wink.
Snowball showed up too after hearing the commotion.
Anneliese’s face returned to neutral. “Snowball, you’re second.”
Then she remembered how sharp a wolf’s hearing was. She added, “Rokky, go keep Snowball company. Talk to him. Keep him distracted.”
