Leonel smiled. “With you here, we have nothing to worry about.”

“Exactly. I’ve thought it through. As long as the three of us stick together, no one gets to meddle in Karthmoor’s business,” Beckett said. “I don’t care who they are.”

“What about them?” Leonel immediately asked, his expression turning wary. “What did they do?”

“I heard they’ve already moved to the southwestern shelter. They secretly took a huge amount of supplies from Jyncrest Shelter and convinced quite a few people to go with them. Their departure caused a major uproar. Jyncrest shelter demanded that the southwestern shelter hand them over, but the southwestern shelter refused and placed them under heavy protection. The leaders of the two shelters nearly went to war over it,” Beckett said.

Leonel sneered. “That sounds exactly like something they’d do.”

“The craziest part is that Mr. Benjamin arranged a marriage between his oldest son and the southwestern shelter leader’s daughter.” Beckett studied Leonel closely. “You wouldn’t happen to be the son he promised her to, would you?”

Beckett looked a little uncomfortable but answered anyway. “My family’s nothing like that. Mostly because they still have at least some sense of shame.”

Leonel burst out laughing. “Exactly. Every last one of the Wrights is shameless trash. After my grandfather died, the whole family went straight to hell.”
