Reborn Cave Queen of the End Times novel Chapter 130

Chapter 130 A Hard-Won Breathing Space

Autumn was soon being chased all over the mountains by a bloodthirsty pack of enemies.

But Autumn was crafty.

She would run for a while, then duck into her storage space to rest.

By the time her pursuers had exhausted themselves searching and were on the verge of giving up, she would pop back out, fire another surprise shot to grab their attention, then lead them on another merry chase. D

Once she’d strung them along far enough, she’d reevaluate again and continue stealing their equipment

After she repeated the trick several times, the enemy finally figured it out. She was luring them away from their base.

From then on, no matter how much Autumn provoked them, they refused to take the bait.

Even so, her little raid had thoroughly thrown the enemy’s entire deployment into chaos.

No matter how brilliant a battle plan was, it still depended on having weapons.

If someone had stolen your weapons, what was left to deploy?

Realizing there was no hope of success, the enemy finally issued the order to withdraw, leading their forces away in reluctant retreat.

The pressure on both the shelter and the hilltop shelter instantly eased.

Autumn contacted Beckett. “They’re pulling back. Should we pursue them?”

“No,” Beckett replied. “Let them go. Never corner a desperate enemy.”

Autumn blinked. “Alright.”

Hearing the disappointment in her voice, Beckett immediately explained, “They attacked us, so we were fighting a defensive battle. That naturally boosts morale. But if we chase after them now, we’ll be the attackers instead. A professional military unit can handle that, but most of the people at the shelter are civilians. Everyone fears death. We’d lose more morale by pursuing than we’d gain.”

“Oh.” Autumn only half understood.

“And there’s another reason,” Beckett continued patiently. “Wiping out refugees too aggressively is likely to spark backlash. Just watch. The central shelter is handling things this way, and sooner or later it’ll come back to bite them. I know you’re frustrated, but don’t rush it. There’ll be plenty of chances to settle the score. We always make sure we’re fighting for a justifiable reason. That way, no one has grounds to criticize us. Besides, if this drags on any longer, I’m worried Leonel’s side won’t be able to hold out. If the enemy gets desperate enough to forget about the supplies and decides to flatten the entire shelter instead, what then?”

Autumn immediately sobered up.

Right

Nothing mattered more than the supplies.
