Reborn Cave Queen of the End Times novel Chapter 140

Chapter 140 Survival Pods

Everyone working on the mountainside and partway up the slopes got called back in.

It didn’t take long before the rumbling reached them through the soles of their feet.

Leonel moved to Autumn’s side, his face tight with worry. “It’s finally here.”

“We should be fine on our end. Beckett’s side is holding up too. The shelter is what I’m worried about Autumn kept her voice steady. “This flood is coming from the south. Everything to the south and southeast has probably already gone under.”

“How long before we do?” Leonel asked.

“Hard to say. A few months on the fast end, a few years if we’re lucky.” Autumn’s expression stayed grave. “Leonel, the flood arriving means the next disaster isn’t far behind.”

Leonel’s hand tightened at his side. “What’s the next one?”

Autumn looked out toward the horizon, and something uncharacteristically unsettled moved through her eyes. She chose her words carefully. “Could be an earthquake and tsunami. Could be a volcanic eruption. Could be both at the same time.”

“Both at once?” Leonel’s shock came through loud and clear. “How do you survive something like that? If the volcanoes on land and under the ocean all go at the same time…”

“It’d be hell on earth.” Autumn turned to face him, more serious than he had ever seen her. “Leonel, you must have a large stock of aerospace-grade survival pods. If you trust me, let me hold onto them. I’ll return every single one intact.”

Leonel let out a short laugh. “If I can’t trust you, there’s nobody left worth trusting. Take everything. Aerospace-grade, underwater, deep-shaft, all of it. And there are some personal belongings I’d like you to keep safe too. If an earthquake hits, I might not have time to grab them myself.”

“Done: Autumn didn’t waste a single extra word, just nodded and held to it.

Leonel led Autumn down to the lowest level of the storage area.

It sat at roughly the lower half of the mountain, closer to the base.

The sheer scale of it made it clear that Leonel and his people had quite literally carved the mountain hollow.

They descended step after step for the better part of half an hour before the largest storage vault finally came into view.

“This is all of it.” Leonel’s voice carried the weight of the moment. “It’s in your hands now, Autumn. Whether any of us make it through this is up to you.”

Autumn gave his shoulder one firm, solid pat. “You won’t regret trusting me.”

Conci smiled. handed over the key, and walked away without looking back.

Had total, unshaking trust.

After he left. Autumn unlocked the vault and looked inside. The breath she sucked in was loud and involuntary.

Good grief.

If she weren’t already on Leonel’s side, she’d have considered robbing the man.

What kind of business has this guy been running? How has he made this much money? How has he bought this much stuff?

Survival pods filled the space in front of her from floor to ceiling, stacked so dense she couldn’t begin to count them all.

There were two-person pods, four-person pods, eight-person pods, and twenty-person pods.

There were spherical, rectangular, and cylindrical pods.
