Autumn finally smiled. “Okay. I won’t be shy about asking for help. From the looks of it, your place didn’t suffer too badly.”
Beckett nodded. “The mountain ridge out front took the brunt of the tsunami. By the time it reached us, most of the force had already been spent. We got incredibly lucky and made it through. We barely had any casualties. We lost some supplies, but compared to everyone else. we got off easy.”
“Yeah. As long as you’re alive, that’s enough.” Autumn nodded. “If you hear anything about Leonel or David, let me know immediately.”
“No problem.”
Three more days passed.
Leonel finally arrived at Aurora Base with a group of survivors.
The moment he spotted Autumn, he completely lost control of his emotions. He ran straight to her and pulled her into his arms. His voice choked. “I almost thought I’d never see you again!”
Autumn sighed. Awkwardly, she patted his back in an attempt to comfort him. “You know better than anyone how hard I am to kill. Just take care of yourself. As long as you stay alive, we’ll always meet again.”
Leonel only hugged her tighter.
The others exchanged knowing looks before snickering.
Autumn couldn’t stand how clingy Leonel was. She pried him off her and turned to Killian. “How many people did you manage to find?”
“Just over 500,” Killian replied. “Most of them are our own people. The rest were survivors we rescued from the shelter. We waited three days, and that’s all we found.”
Autumn nodded. “Did you run into David?”
“No,” Leonel cut in before anyone else could answer. “We’ve also been searching for Mr. Fisher. His survival pod was high quality. He’ll be fine.”
Afraid she would worry, Leonel hurried to reassure her. “Mr. Fisher always has good luck. He’ll make it back.”

Autumn said calmly. “When disasters like this strike, everyone is equal. We can only leave it to
fate
Just then, a commotion erupted outside.
Autumn and Leonel turned at the same time. Two large cargo ships packed with people were approaching.
The people waiting along the shore instantly lit up with hope, praying to catch sight of their family and friends.
Before the ships had fully docked, Scott leaped ashore in a rush. The moment he saw Autumn and Leonel, he charged over, grabbing one of them with each hand. His eyes were red with tears. “You’re both alive! Thank goodness! I thought I’d never see you two again! This damned disaster… This damned apocalypse… It’s like the world is determined to wipe us all out!”
Before Autumn or Leonel could respond, Scott continued in a rush, “Mr. Wright, I know you’re capable of things most people can’t do. Could I ask you to retrieve a batch of supplies from the shelter? The price isn’t an issue. What matters is what’s down there. It’s incredibly important. I’m afraid something will happen if we wait too long!”
Autumn asked, “What could be that important?”
Scott let out a long sigh. “At this point, I won’t hide it from you anymore. My older brother secretly had someone deliver it to me. He warned me over and over that I had to keep it safe. When the tsunami hit, I planned to take it with me. But then, I looked outside and saw all those ordinary people who still needed rescuing. In the end, I chose to save lives first. I left it underwater, figuring I could come back for it once the tsunami receded. “I never imagined the damage would be this severe. The old shelter is gone for good.”
Scott pulled Autumn and Leonel closer, whispering, “The item is a compact fusion device.”
“What?” Autumn was so shocked that she could barely talk. “W-what did you say?”
“Keep your voice down!” Scott hissed. “I hid it in… As long as you can dive down there, you’ll find it. It’s pretty large, so it has to be handled carefully. If this apocalypse ever ends, we might end up depending on that thing to live.”
Autumn turned to Leonel. “They actually have something like that now? I thought compact fusion devices only existed in science fiction.”
Leonel was silent for a moment. “I’m a businessman, not a scientist. I know nothing about this stuff. But if Mr. Marsh says it exists, then I believe him.”
“It’s absolutely real,” Scott said firmly. “It was actually developed years ago. The technology was
