Chapter 17 Welcome to the Apocalypse
It was a question with no context, yet both Autumn and David understood exactly what Leonel meant.
“Ten hours froin now,” Autumn replied. “Tomorrow at ten in the morning, a comet will skim past the planet. The atmospheric disturbance will cause fragments to break away and crash to the surface. Massive fires will erupt everywhere. At the same time, extreme heat and drought will begin.”
Leonel’s grip tightened around his glass.
“If that’s all that happens, society won’t collapse,” he pointed out. “Order will still exist.”
“I know,” Autumn answered calmly. “But other countries won’t be so lucky. Not every nation has strategie food reserves.”
Leonel fell silent for a moment. “Eventually, that chaos will spread here too.”
“Within three months at most.” Autumn lowered her eyes. “I just hope more people survive this time.”
After nightfall, Autumn quietly descended the mountain and returned to downtown Karthmoor.
This time, she didn’t check into a hotel. Instead, she stood on a street corner, using her phone to record the final hours of civilization.
After tonight, none of that would remain.
The residents of Everjoy Residences were already asleep. Autumn gave her home one last look before turning away and disappearing into the darkness. She made her way to the relocation office’s supply warehouse and effortlessly collected the remaining supplies, adding them to her stockpile.
Those materials would eventually be flooded, buried, or destroyed anyway. She might as well put them to use.
Afterward, she climbed a tree and settled onto a sturdy branch to wait for the apocalypse.
The next morning arrived. Just after dawn, Autumn calmly entered the city library.
She intended to save those treasures of human knowledge before they were lost forever.
At ten o’clock, a comet arrived right on time.
An astronomy enthusiast had been casually observing it through a telescope for fun. Then something felt wrong.
He couldn’t help dropping the binoculars and looking up at the sky.
A comet suddenly broke apart, splitting into countless massive meteorites. Carrying enough force to wipe out the world, they rushed closer and closer, transforming from distant specks in the void into an overwhelming reality that slammed straight into his field of vision.
“Oh, no!” The astronomy enthusiast threw everything in his hands aside and turned to grab his family, ready to run.
But a gigantic meteorite crashed directly into his house. In an instant, he, his wife, his children, and their home were reduced to ashes.
The same thing was happening all over the world.
Not a single continent was spared.
Countless fragments of meteorites swept across the planet like an unstoppable apocalypse/devouring every living thing in their path.
Wherever they struck, nothing survived.
Watching the apocalyptic scene unfold outside the window, Autumn said softly, “Welcome to the apocalypse. The final struggle for survival has begun!”
The moment the words left her lips, chaos erupted behind her.
People were running in every direction.
They had seen the same terrifying vision of doomsday. Everyone was desperately fleeing, searching for someplace safe, trying to make it home and reunite with their families.
