Chapter 171 The Queen Takes the Throne
And when humanity stopped loving, it stopped being treated kindly. Simple as that.

But whatever was up there had been merciful, too. When it took that kindness back, it left a sliver of hope behind.
Whoever could catch hold on to that sliver would live.
Whoever couldn’t would be left behind.
So that was the truth behind the storage space! That was why she’d been reborn! That was the reason it kept upgrading!
With all of it finally straight in her head, Autumn took a deep breath.
If this was all written down somewhere in advance, then fine, she’d take it!
So she had to drag everybody through this alive. Was that all?
Let’s go!
She’d spent her whole last life running dungeons solo, and she’d had more than enough of it.
This time, she’d run them with a whole team behind her and see what kind of ending they could fight their way to.
“This base chief job-I’ll do it,” Autumn told Leonel. “Starting today, I’m officially on the clock.” Leonel’s eyes crinkled with his smile. “Good. I believe in you. You’ve absolutely got this.”
Maybe it was the change in her own attitude, but Autumn suddenly felt something real for this base, instead of the detached, do-whatever-she-wanted mindset she’d carried for weeks.
And if she’d genuinely accepted what fate had handed her, then it was time to do something useful with it.
Autumn went digging through the supplies in her storage space and discovered that she had a truly obscene amount of stock.
“Massive” didn’t begin to cover it.
And the range of what Leonel had collected was absurd.

There was nothing the man hadn’t stockpiled.
Then, once it had all gone through the ten-thousandfold duplication… forget about it.

So, Autumn decided to pull some of it out and put it to work for the people of Aurora Base.
“I’ve made up my mind. I’m opening a store in the base!” Autumn said. “It’ll get people motivated, and it’ll finally get the base’s credits circulating!”
“Oh? Now you’re speaking my language.” Leonel perked right up. “Tell me about it. What kind of store are we talking about?”
Autumn grabbed hold of Leonel and started talking a mile a minute.
The gist of it was that they couldn’t keep coddling the people in this base the way they had been.
The shelter had always had its haves and its have-nots.
But under Scott’s management, the worst most people faced was hardship, meager food, and inadequate clothing. There was crime, but not much of it.
Which had left the majority of them convinced the rest of the world worked the same way.
Why else would a few speeches from the central shelter have walked several hundred thousand people right out the door?
So brainwashing-sorry, education-had to be part of the plan too.
“I also want a screen installed in every single cave, running footage of what’s happening outside on a loop all day, plus some entertainment. Shows, dramas, that kind of thing,” Autumn said. “People need something to look forward to. That’s what keeps them wanting to stay alive.”
“Done. Whatever you say.” Leonel nodded. “I’ll go talk it over with Mr. Marsh.”
Autumn said, “We keep calling him Mr. Marsh, and I still don’t know his actual first name.”
“Him? His real name is Scott. Scott Marsh. He’s never liked the sound of it, says it comes out like ‘Scotch Marsh, so he’s had everyone use the title for years,” Leonel answered with a grin. “His older brother got it worse. They named him Emmanuel. Emmanuel Marsh.”
Autumn had nothing to say to that. “Those are… some seriously quirky names.”
“I’ve always thought so,” Leonel said dryly. “Which is exactly why he’s so attached to being

called Mr. Marsh.”
With Autumn behind it, the standard of living across Aurora Base shot straight up.

They opened the internal store, and they got the big screens running, broadcasting news from outside every day so people could see for themselves how brutal and terrifying the world out there had become.
After discovering that fewer people were considerably easier to manage, Scott went to Autumn with another idea: should they restart the school and give all those idle kids somewhere to be?
Autumn agreed on the spot.
Everyone else was in favor too.
Aurora Base had finally shed its dead weight and started pushing forward.
One day, during her usual inspection, Autumn noticed that the volcanic ash outside had settled into a solid, motionless layer.
Air like that was as bad as air got.
It was also their last window.
Autumn sent for Beckett. “Beckett, I’ve got full sets of protective suits here, enough to guarantee nobody gets hurt. Before the acid rain starts, this is our last chance to haul in saltwater fish. So what do you think-”
Beckett was on his feet before she finished. “Leave it to me. My people are so bored right now they’re climbing the walls. Giving them something to do will help them loosen up a little.”
