With so many people working, nobody would put in the labor for free. The restaurant needed overtime staff, so it hired a few temporary workers and opened up new jobs.
Everyone who couldn’t grab those jobs went to grow vegetables and grain, or raise chickens, ducks, and pigs.
Since everyone lived in the shared caves, there were also positions for cleaning, hauling trash, and tending the boilers. All of it put a lot of people to work.
Autumn spent a full day testing her storage space. She could now stay inside for 12 hours at a stretch.
That was a real leap. At the start she’d only managed five minutes.
She had no idea how many more upgrades were coming, but eventually she’d be able to live in the space around the clock.
That wasn’t the only change. The farmable land had doubled to 80 acres. Every lake, forest, marsh, and ocean had doubled to match.
Autumn looked at the 80 acres of black soil waiting to be worked. For the first time, she was exhausted and happy at once.
If only the space would let other people in to help her. Then she wouldn’t have to work herself to the bone.
But the space was her last refuge, and she could never let anyone set foot in it easily.
People were impossible to read. Human nature never held up under pressure.
She’d lived through every kind of darkness in her past life, and she would never show her hole card to anyone.
So the space had to be leveled up fast, all the way to the top.
If she ever got betrayed, she’d hide in the space and never come out. Let them do whatever they wanted.
And if she didn’t get betrayed, she still wouldn’t hand out access freely. At most she’d release some supplies to keep a functioning society running.
The saints and martyrs never lasted till the end. So a little exhaustion was a fair price.

Good thing she’d had the foresight to stockpile all those farming gadgets. Scott turned out to be a hoarder too, with every tool, part, and fitting she could want, and she’d happily taken the lot.
If something broke, she’d fix it herself. If she couldn’t fix it, she’d just duplicate a new one and keep going. Thank the space, thank the Ten-Thousandfold Duplication Ability; she had nothing to worry about.
And so Autumn farmed 12 hours a day inside the space for a solid week, until every last plot was planted.
Even the forest edges, the odd corners, the scraps of grass by the lake-anywhere she could plant, she planted.
She put in only high-yield, high-calorie crops, all of them fast to mature. Everything got a spot.
When she finished, Autumn dropped straight into bed and slept until she was good and satisfied.
She shuffled out in her slippers to wander around and found that Aurora Base was already humming along under the three of them. Efficient and orderly.
One ran security, one ran the economy, one ran daily life. Each stuck to their own job, and it worked well.
If anything, it made her, the so-called base leader, look like the one with time on her hands.
Scott caught sight of her and spoke up. “You’re just in time. The feed at the ranch is running a little short. Should we cut back the herd, or…”
“Feed? Hold on, I’ve got it.” Autumn turned on her heel, changed clothes, went back into the
grass. space, fired up the machines, and coolly mowed
That was right. She had a whole stretch of natural pasture, and rabbits, sheep, and cattle grazed free on it.
While mowing, she noticed the rabbits had bred out of control, so she dropped the machine and went to catch rabbits.
By the time she came out again, her back was too sore to straighten. But she handed Scott a mountain of green grass and a mountain of rabbits.
“There you go, do what you want with it. I’m dead on my feet, I’m going to sleep.” Autumn spun around and bolted.

She left Scott beaming. If he’d known Autumn could work like this, he wouldn’t have dragged his feet. He’d have merged the bases ages ago.
Later, when Autumn woke again and was about to grab her lunch box for the mess hall, she saw Beckett hurrying over.
“Autumn, you’re just in time. I’ve been looking for you.” Beckett said, “The crew collecting acid rain has doubled again. Everyone wants that job, and we’re out of glassware…”
“Hold on.” Autumn dropped the two flat words, resigned herself to it, went back, and dug out the glassware that hadn’t been duplicated yet, then coolly ran off a ten-thousandfold batch.
