Chapter 45 The Exchange

James said. “We’re basically not lacking food, water, clothes, shoes, or medicine, but we are short on high- end technology. Those aren’t things you can just buy with money.”

“Like what?” Autumn looked at James.

James thought for a moment before answering, “Things like circuit boards and microchips. Most of the chips we have came from Beautania, but we’ve managed to get very few domestically. In terms of technology, Beautania is a little more advanced, but when it comes to quality, our domestic products are still better. It’d be ideal if we could stockpile more. The apocalypse won’t last forever. The better prepared we are, the stronger our position will be when it’s time to rebuild afterward. At that point, whether we rise/ to the top or end up beneath someone else will depend on the resources we have in reserve.”

Leonel added, “Besides that, we need to stock up on more industrial goods. Autumn, if the apocalypse is really as brutal as you described, then the industrial products we see everywhere today will become luxury items in the future.”

“Exactly,” Autumn nodded. “After the acid rain, industrial goods will be worth their weight in gold.”

“James, after setting aside our own supplies, how much can we still use for trading?” Leonel asked.

“About…” James reported a figure.

“Autumn. I’d like you to come with me. I’d like to store those supplies with you temporarily. Same arrangement as always. A ten percent storage fee,” Leonel said frankly. “Nowhere is safer than with you.”

Autumn thought about it for a moment before agreeing. “Alright”

The next day. Autumn and Leonel traveled to the shelter by boat.

Returning to the shelter again, Autumn found it much livelier than before.

Now that the extreme heat was gone and the temperature was comfortable, even the relentless rain couldn’t stop people from coming out to make a living.

With so many people living inside the shelter, there were naturally countless low-level jobs that required manpower.

As a result, people hurried back and forth everywhere, all hoping to earn enough to fill their stomachs.

The exchange was located in the northwest corner of the shelter, not far from the wealthy residential district.

Leonel and Autumn went to Villa One first.

Karthmoor’s top official wants to take control of the shelter, but the second-ranking official rejected him because the shelter director is one of his eople. The two sides have been fighting openly and behind the scenes ever since. Besides that, the military still hasn’t taken a clear position. They’re continuing to follow orders from the central government and haven’t gotten involved in the conflict. The rainstorm has been so severe that two grain warehouse’s suffered flooding to different degrees. Some of the grain got soaked and molded, so there’s now a food shortage. Grain became the first contumodity traded at the exchange. Since it’s been raining constantly, water isn’t nearly as scarce anymore, so our bottled water business has slowed down a lot. As of today, it’s basically stopped altogether. Only a few rich young heirs are still buying water from us to throw pool parties. Just like you instructed, we’ve accepted gold as the primary form of payment. Everything eke we’ve collected has been rare goods. They’re all stored in the basement.”

“You’ve all worked hard.” Leonel patted them on the shoulders. “In a few days, I’ll have someone rotate in to replace you. You can all take a few days off and get some rest.”
