Chapter 46 Not for Sale

Kitchen supplies included cookware such as pots, pans, plates, ladles, forks, baking trays, and steamers. They also included dinnerware such as flatware, wine glasses, and condiment bottles. Appliances such as microwaves, ovens, toasters, coffee makers, rice cookers, blenders, and juicers were part of the category as well. Finally, kitchen basics such as knives, cutting boards, paper towels, storage bags, kettles, plastic wrap, butcher blocks, and measuring cups were also included.

There was also a huge batch of electronics-watches, smartphones, telephones, televisions, DVD players, VCRs, camcorders, radios, boomboxes, stereo systems, CD players, computers, game consoles, and tablets.

On top of all that, there were assorted small goods in varying quantities.

“This guy’s got quite a stockpile,” Autumn said. “Too bad none of it’s edible. What’s he after?”

“Exactly. Since he can’t eat any of it, what he’s after is food and water,” Leonel said. “Know who just dropped a fortune on water a minute ago? Victor’s only son, Preston Forrest.”

Autumn raised an eyebrow. “Spending that big on water… He must be loaded, right?”

“A spoiled trust-fund kid like that could never understand what his dad went through to build it all. Spending money you never had to earn doesn’t hurt one bit,” Leonel replied with a laugh. “So? Anything catch your eye?”

Autumn picked out a few things and said, “I don’t have any of these stocked up. Set a few aside for me.”

“That’s all? Let me set aside a little of each for you. You’ve got somewhere to keep it all anyway.” Leonel made the call right then and there, no discussion.

Autumn nodded with an easy, take-it-or-leave-it smile.

“Take a look at this one too. He’s trading electronic components. Anything here you need?” Leonel asked.

Autumn shook her head. “This stuff’s over my head. If I ever need any, I’ll just come to you.”

“Works for me,” Leonel agreed readily. “Let’s check out the others.”

The two of them put their heads together, talked it through, and quickly nailed down exactly what they wanted to trade for.

Leonel submitted his list of wanted items to the exchange, and the exchange immediately notified the handful of tycoons he’d singled out.

In under half an hour, those tycoons came hurrying over to haggle with Leonel.

No matter how much they traded or what the total came to, the exchange took a cut of one-tenth of a percent as its transaction fee.

In return, the exchange guaranteed the safety of both sides and allowed no double-crossing.

Otherwise, everyone would’ve just traded privately instead of jumping through all these hoops.

Once the prices were settled, all three parties signed the trade contract together.

With that, everyone walked away satisfied.

Victor turned to Leonel and said, “As it happens, we’re throwing a party over at my place. If you two don’t mind, why not come by and sit a while?”

As he spoke, Victor shot Leonel a look.

It was his way of saying he wanted to cut the exchange out and deal privately.

Clearly, that little cut the exchange had taken just now had stung Victor.

That was the self-made rich for you. They knew the value of a dollar and squeezed every penny they could.

Leonel thought it over and agreed.

The moment they left the exchange, Victor pulled Leonel aside and said, “Mr. Wright, I’ve also got a batch of contraceptives on hand, the kind that keeps you from getting anyone pregnant. You interested?”

For some reason. Leonel’s first instinct was to glance straight at Autumn.
