Chapter 50 Everything’s Gone
Victor was furious but didn’t dare say a word.
Living at the shelter now, he had no choice but to play along with Scott.
He said stiffly, “Then out of respect for you, Mr. Marsh, I’ll let it go for today. But two days from now, expect you not to go back on your word again, Mr. Wright!”
“Of course. Much appreciated,” Leonel said quickly. “Thank you for stepping in on my behalf, Mr. Marsh, Since I can’t drink right now, allow me to raise a cup of coffee to you both instead!”
Once he drank the coffee, the smile tugging at the corner of his mouth was impossible to keep in check
Just then, someone came hurrying in and murmured something in Victor’s ear, and he shot to his feet, stunned. “What?”
With that. Victor immediately told Scott, “Something’s come up. I need to head back.”
And Victor rushed off.
Scott stood up as well and said, “Now, we had a deal about that grain…”.
“It’s yours, naturally,” Leonel answered with a smile. “Better not to leave loose ends. I’ll have my people count out the grain right now and send it over to you tonight.”
“Great!” Scott was thoroughly pleased, and he clapped Leonel on the shoulder. “You back me like this, and I won’t let you down. The moment that grain arrives, the cargo ship is yours!”
“Much appreciated.” Leonel smiled.
After seeing Scott off, Leonel went straight to Autumn.
Autumn smiled and gave a nod. Leonel let out a long breath. “Nicely done!”
At that, the whole group broke into laughter.
That night, everyone slept soundly. Everyone except Victor.
“How could it all just be gone? All that stuff, how could it vanish like this?” Victor stared at the completely empty villa, utterly falling apart. “Is this how you watched the place? Who could make off with this much right under your noses without a single soul noticing? Does that make any sense?”
But an even bigger blow was on its way.
The guards over at the bomb shelter finally woke up, and the sight of it sitting empty with its doors wide open scared them witless.
“We ve got a problem, Mr Victor! The supplies at the bomb shelter… They’re all gone!”
Victor’s vision went black, and he collapsed to the floor.
Leonel and Autumn were in the middle of a meal when a ruckus broke out outside.
“It had to be them! They’re the ofres who did this!” Victor raved like a madman at the front door of Villa One, shouting at the top of his lungs. “They lured me out just so they could steal my supplies! Didn’t your shelter promise to protect our interests? All of you, go arrest Leonel right now!”
