Reborn Cave Queen of the End Times novel Chapter 52

Chapter 52 Buried in an Instant

“Let’s go take a look!” Autumn rushed to the cave entrance and looked outside.

Not far off, a hillside collapsed with a thunderous crash, forming a massive mudslide that came tearing wildly down toward the foot of the mountain.

“Oh my God! It’s a mudslide!” David was so stunned he could barely get the words out. “This is absolutely terrifying!”

“The extreme heat and drought killed off every last bit of vegetation on the mountaintops, and then the wildfires burned it all to nothing, not even a single root left behind. The sun baked the rocks brittle straight through, and with rain pouring down like this, soaking them soft, the mountainside was never going to hold up under all that weight. A mudslide was only a matter of time,” Autumn answered. “I’m afraid that whole stretch of land down below is done for, wiped clean off the map.”

The words had barely left her mouth when the surging mudslide swallowed up a villa district on the small slope below.

“Holy crap.” David’s eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets. “There were still people living in that villa district, weren’t there?”

“Probably.” Autumn took a look through her binoculars and said, “There’s not a single one left now.”

David’s lips wouldn’t stop trembling.

The power of nature was truly overwhelming, a force so immense that words themselves fell short.

Even at this distance, they could still feel how that earth-shattering force had so brutally wiped out an entire little world.

Leonel came hurrying over. “Are you two all right?”

Autumn waved him off. “We’re fine. What about your side?”

“My people have all pulled back already, so there were no casualties,” Leonel said, his expression grave as he gazed into the distance. “I wonder how things are over at the shelter.”

The moment he finished speaking, Leonel’s phone rang.

/ Leonel put it straight on speaker, and a panicked voice came through. “Mr. Wright, the plaza on the northwest corner of the shelter has been completely wrecked by the mudslide! Word is more than a thousand people were swept away without a trace in the blink of an eye!”

“Are you all okay?” Leonel asked.

“We’re all right. Our villa district is all underground, so it’s relatively safe. But the buildings above ground werent so lucky They weren’t hit by the mudslide itself, but the falling rocks from the mountain still injured quite a few people. Thank goodness the mudslide only grazed past the shelter. If it had…” There was a lingering trace of fear in the voice on the other end.

Indeed. If that mudslide had veered even a little in that direction, the entire shelter would have been buried without a bogce.

“You should all pull back. There’s no need to keep holding down the fort there,” Leonel said. “It’s not as if we need that little bit of business that badly.”

“We’d rather stick around a while longer and see how it goes. Business here is at its absolute peak right now,” the man answered. “You look out for us, Mr. Wright, so we’ve got to look out for you too. If we don’t rake in more supplies now, how are we supposed to get through the even bigger disasters down the road

Leonel let out a sigh. “Then you all be careful. The second something looks off, you run. Supplies are just things. Your lives are what matter most.”

“Got it.”

After hanging up. Leonel turned to Autumn. “I finally understand why you insisted on building your shelter right here. Autumn, you saved every one of our lives. You probably don’t know this yet, but Fenmoor is completely submerged now. Of everyone who tried to flee, not even one in ten made it out alive.”
