Reborn Cave Queen of the End Times novel Chapter 65

Chapter 65 The Wright Family’s Scheme

But guess what? The trenches were actually insulated pretty well.

Sure, it wasn’t as comfortable as the hill next door, but at least people probably wouldn’t freeze to death.

They picked up the pace on the logging, cutting every dead tree nearby and dragging it back The ones tog far to reach would have to wait until everything froze over, so they could cross the ice.

None of that had much to do with Autumn.

She was stretched out cozy in a lounge chair, taking it easy, listening to music, eating fresh fruit, drifting toward sleep.

Then all at once, a cheer went up outside. “The rain stopped! It really stopped! Look, is the sun coming out?”

Autumn’s eyes flew open. She jumped up and ran to the cave entrance.

The rain really had stopped.

Which meant the endless downpour was nearly over.

And the truly brutal world was about to arrive.

Autumn called Leonel. “How many satellites are still working?”

“I was just about to call you,” Leonel said. “Word just came in-the satellites up there suddenly lost control, broke free of Earth’s gravity, and started drifting off into deep space. Right now, only a few comms and weather satellites are still running. The rest have all failed. Even some military satellites are damaged to one degree or another, past repair. My guess is it won’t be long before our own communications go dark. I’ve had some walkie-talkies put together. I’ll send them your way shortly.”

“Uh… okay.” Autumn didn’t turn down the gesture.

“Just like you said, Earth’s magnetic poles have already gone haywire.” Leonel let out a sigh. “The real test is coming.

“Mm.” Autumn said nothing more and hung up.

Leonel looked at the dead phone and was about to give James an order when a familiar number flashed across the screen.

He hesitated a moment, then answered, “Hello.”

“What you won’t even call me Dad anymore?” A stern voice came through. “Or are you planning to throw away the Wright name too?”

Not at all I’m just a drifter who got kicked out of the family. I wouldn’t dare stain the Wright name.” Icone replied, mockery plain in his voice

“You little bastard!” the voice snapped. Then, someone quickly snatched the phone away. “Hello, Leonel, you’re not dredge up the past. Look at the state of things now. We’ve already gotten word that everything up to is about to fall apart. Dad’s decided to take all of us and leave Jyncrest together. Come with us!”

“Leave? For where?” The mocking curl at the corner of Leonel’s mouth flashed and vanished.

“Dad stored supplies in the southwestern marches ahead of time. If we go there, we’ll be just fine. Maybe not as carefree as before the apocalypse, but we’ll get by. Leonel, come back now. If you wait too long. I’m afraid it’ll be too late.” The young man’s voice was urgent, as if he genuinely cared.

“No need. I’m doing just fine out here on my own. One mouth to feed, and nobody goes hungry. I won’t come back to fight you for your seat at the table,” Leonel refused coldly.
