Autumn found David. "I need to leave town for a while and keep a low profile," she said. "While I'm gone, make foods that can be stored for a long time. Noodles, fried noodles, fried rice, steamed buns, flatbreads—anything like that. Freeze everything after it's cooked. When I get back, we'll store it together."
A cigarette hung from the corner of David's mouth as he kept stir-frying food in the pan. "Is it that serious?" he asked. "Want me to come with you?"
"No. I'll move around more easily by myself." Autumn smiled at him. "I'll be back in one month if things go well. Two months at most. David, don't worry. I won't leave you behind."
David chuckled. "You think I don't trust you? Oh, right. The key's in my pocket. Go open the storage room upstairs yourself. Everything I own is in there."
Autumn didn't stand on ceremony. She reached right into his pocket and took the key.
David didn't even glance at her.
That was complete trust.
Autumn smiled.
David, I won't let you down.
She unlocked the storage room and froze.
She had never expected this. Not in a million years.
David's entire life's savings were not cash, jewelry, or family heirlooms. They were two gleaming sabers that gave off a cold, sharp shine.
Beside them lay a scimitar about the size of a dinner plate.
Autumn's eyes instantly turned red.
David had spent his retirement savings on weapons and left them for her to protect herself.
She looked up at the ceiling, refusing to let the tears fall.
Then she stopped being sentimental and quickly put away the two sabers and the scimitar.
After that, she booked the earliest flight she could find and headed south.
She had two reasons for heading south. First, it was wealthy and had plenty of supplies. Second, there were a lot of rich people there, making it easier to pull off a few "free shopping trips" or sell gold.
The moment she got off the plane, she changed clothes in the airport and once again disguised herself as a teenage boy.
Pulling her suitcase behind her, she checked into a small, ordinary motel. Then she got online and started searching for famous wholesale markets.
This time, she bought fruit in bulk.
She stocked up on every fruit she could find—tomatoes, pineapples, watermelons, bananas, oranges, grapefruit, apples, cherries, peaches, pears, lemons, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, grapes, mangoes, papayas, apricots, nectarines, plums, pomegranates, cantaloupes, kiwis, avocados, coconuts, and dragon fruit. She grabbed cases of dried fruits and berries too, along with countless other varieties.
Then she went to the vegetable wholesale market and loaded up on fresh produce.
She stocked up on vegetables of every kind. Leafy greens like spinach, lettuce, kale, and celery. Root vegetables like potatoes, carrots, beets, sweet potatoes, and radishes. She loaded up on tomatoes, eggplants, and bell peppers.
Then came the produce staples—green beans, peas, lima beans, onions, garlic, and scallions.
She stocked up on fresh produce from every section of the market, including asparagus, celery, artichokes, and other specialty vegetables.
She bought mushrooms of every kind—button, cremini, portobello, shiitake, and oyster mushrooms—along with dried mushrooms and other gourmet varieties.
She also stocked up on potatoes, pumpkins, cucumbers, and other seasonal produce.
After that, she sold another 50 gold bars and walked away with over 20 million dollars in cash.
Then she threw herself back into her shopping spree.
For seven straight days, she bought almost every kind of item she could find locally.
The moment she finished, she didn't stay a second longer. She headed to the next city.
She traveled from place to place, buying and collecting everything in sight.
By the time she had spent half her gold, she had finally made her way west to Leulgas.
Leulgas was famous for having some of the cleanest and purest water in the world. Water scooped from almost any reservoir there was as good as bottled spring water.
Autumn had deliberately avoided buying water.

Autumn bit her lip. No. I need another big haul.
