"Alright, stop complaining. We're almost there."
The car finally stopped in front of the Whelan family's shack. The couple got out and saw the gate was shut tight. Thomas stepped up and banged on it a few times.
No one answered.
"Why is no one here? Did we come at a bad time?" Thomas asked.
Melissa wasn't about to give up. She had to see the Whelan parents today to switch the fiancés back. "I'll go ask the neighbors!"
Melissa spotted a villager walking by with a hoe.
"Excuse me, ma'am? You're a neighbor of the Whelans, right? Do you know where the family went? Why aren't they home?"
The woman glanced at them. "They moved."
"Moved? Moved where?"
"Something called Evergold Heights, I think. That's all I know. A lot of people came yesterday and moved them out."
Upon hearing the news, Melissa decided to drag Thomas to Evergold Heights.
"Let's go, honey! To Evergold Heights!"
Thomas was puzzled. "Why would they move to Evergold Heights? Isn't that a wealthy area? Can they afford it?"
"Evergold Heights is huge; there are probably poor sections too. It's a newly developed area, after all. They definitely can't afford a house there; maybe they're renting a basement. Let's go see!" Melissa was confident.
"What are you doing here?" Amanda asked coldly.
"Mr. Whelan, Mrs. Whelan, we came today primarily to discuss the children's marriage. There was a mix-up with the babies back then, but the engagement was made between specific people. When the Sinclairs engaged with the Sterlings, they wanted Emily. And when the Holts engaged with the Sterlings, they wanted Elena. I think we should keep the fiancés as they were originally intended," Melissa said with a smile.
Daniel and Amanda were furious. Hadn't they said Emily was already married to the Holt heir? Now that they saw Dylan had recovered, they were targeting their family again! It was outrageous! Was their Emily a human being, while Elena was just a commodity to be mistreated?
"Mr. Sterling, Mrs. Sterling, are you mocking us?" Daniel's face turned iron-gray with rage.
"Of course not. We aren't asking for this for free. How about this: we will give you two million. You give Dylan to Emily. After all, Emily is the child you raised for eighteen years. You treated her as your own back then; can't you show her some love now?"
*Bang!*
Daniel slammed his hand onto the table. His face flushed red, shaking with fury, his blood pressure spiking."
