My skin’s on fire.
Not burning. Buzzing. Tingling like sparks are dancing under my skin. The heat is a never ending pulse, and ache that highlights the emptiness inside of me.
My wolf whines and pants, paws and calls out to her mate.
She can sense his proximity and she knows he can give her what she needs.
That he can fill the chasm inside of us.
Mate. Mate. Mate, she chants.
My nails dig into the leather seats of Keith’s car.
His scent is a siren calling out to me in tones of smoke and rain.
My breath comes fast. My fingers tremble form the force it takes to hold them in place.
“Are you sure you don’t want to go to Emma instead,” Kieth asks again.
“No. Keep driving.”
Even in my delirious state the thought of going back to Blue Rock and having my father possibly see me in a throes of frenzied lust is mortifying.
No.
I rather deal with this outside pack borders.
“Can I at least know where we are going?” Keith inquires.
My heart’s racing–and not from fear.
From him.
Form the sound of his voice.
From the heat of his skin emanating in the small space. From that demanded dark cedar and musky smoke depend on the tang of wildness that is his wolf.
I’m craving it.
Craving him.
Heat crashed into my core and I barely resist the urge to moan.
No.
No no no.
I clench my fists and bite down on my tongue
Focus. That’s all I need.
Just a little bit of-
“Hope,” he says softly. “You’re shaking.”

“Thanks for the update. I don’t know where I’d be without your amazing deduction skills,” I snap.
Instead of him getting pissed at my bitchy attitude, he only seems to get more worried which pisses me off.
I can’t handle nice Kieth.
I need to hate him.
Especially right now.
We reach Lincoln street.
“Where do I go from here?”
I don’t have to look out the window to know. ” Take a left for half a mile then another left. You’re going to drive down 145 for ten minutes. The house will be on your left. It’s a small light blue house with a purple roof.”
He looks at me before turning back to the road. “Still waiting for you to tell me we’re exactly
I’m taking you.”
I close my eyes. His voice makes everything worse.
Or better.
I can’t tell anymore.
My wolf’s howling inside, scratching, pacing. She wants to submit. She wants to be claimed.
I refuse.
Not like this.
Not drugged. Not desperate. Not whenever the last rational thought reminds me of why I
T
can’t let it happen no matter how much I want it to.

So, I speak to distract myself. “In the black market there’s a healer. A rogue. No questions, no name, just service.”
“Do I even want to know how you know this?”
“Probably not.” Another thrum of lust beats down on me. “Distract me.”
“Uh, okay. Sure.” There is a pause as he searches for something to say. “Emma says the Hypno session with her went well.”
“Oh yeah,” before I can think better of what I’m asking I say, “And did she get to speak to your wolf and Lycan.”
Shit. That was too personal.
Oh well, it’s too late now.
“She did. She said the the merge is natural for me given my family lineage but the dreams are still a mystery.”
If I didn’t know him as well as I don’t I would have believed him.
It isn’t that he is lying per se but he isn’t telling me the whole truth.
He used to do this all the time, I now realize as I analyze the years I spent as his mate. His voice would get pitched, the cadence picking up and getting slightly faster when he was omitting information he thought would upset me or felt I was better off not knowing.
