“Oh Goddess,” the first one whispers. “We didn’t know. Swear to the moon, we didn’t know.”
“Yeah we weren’t going to harm her. We just had to get her to him is all” the third one quickly adds.
Maim, tear, kill.
My beast demands and a vicious growl rips from my throat and they cry out.
Fuck, I’m slipping.
The want, no, the need to eliminate them for daring to hurt my mate is overwhelming.
Hope’s hand touches my chest. She isn’t looking at me, but that small connection between us grounds me. My control slowly returns.
“You didn’t know what?” she demands.
“We didn’t know you were Alpha Clinton’s daughter!”
Hope’s eyes flash. “So what–you would’ve drugged and kidnapped someone else instead?”
“No!” he yells, hands up. “It was a job! Tyler just said to scare her!To move her outside of town and dump her somewhere in the woods.”
I step forward, placing my body in front of Hopes.
“And what would you have done to her when you got her alone… when she was defenseless? Would that have been the end for you?”
“Yeah?” she sound uncertain even as he says it.
Lies, my beast snarls.
My hand shoots out and I grip his jaw in my hand, applying pressure until he cries out in pain. “I really hate being lied to.”
I low groan comes from the one who is unconscious.
The other two start talking at once.
“Please, it was just a job.”
“We’re from out of town!”

Hope puts her foot on one guy’s chest, presses down until he yelps. “Tell me, if your not from around here, how did you recongnize my face?”
They go quiet. My eyes narrow.
There was no way they could unless the were told who she was.
I tisk. “This day is going to get a lot more unpleasant for you.”
“I’m calling pack security,” she annnounces.
“I’ll take care of them while you deal with the enforcers.” I ignore the males whimpers as I work on binding each of there hands.
They have no idea how lucky they are. If this were on my territory I would have taken them back to a holding cell and made them regret ever saying yes to such a task.
Tyler.
His name cause acid to roil in my gut.
He’s another one who has to pay.
There is noting worse then a male who needs others to get his hands dirty for him. And to hire others to attack his stepsister, dispicable.
Hope’s voice carries over to me. “Yes. Were in the alley off Ridge Street. Three foreign wolves. Attempted assault. I’m with Alpha Keith. Get here fast.”
She hangs up.
I take a step forward. She turns a neutral look on her face, taking note of me.
Her expression doesn’t change.
I take the opportunity to give her a once over, reassuring myself that shes find.
“Hey.” Goddess that was a stupid thing to say.
“…Hey.”
“You okay?” I’m two for two here.
She doesn’t answer. Instead, she paces once. Twice.
The guys are huddled together now, waiting to be dragged away.
The crunch of gravel sounds in the distance.
“They’ll be dealt with,” she says ignoring my question.
“Hope-”
“I’m fine,” she snaps.
“You could have fooled me,” I say.

She is still unsteady on her feet and her naturally pale skin looks close to translucent. What did they use on her?
She rubs her temples sighing as she drops her guard a few feet. “My head’s fuzzy. Must’ve
been the drink.”
A black jeep pulls up the curb and severa warriors and enforcers step out. Hope nods to the quickly filling them in on everything that happened. The males are detained and taken inside of the jeep so they can be driven back to Blue Rock.
Before they drive off she goes up to the window. “Keep this quiet. Tyler can’t know about this.
The male gives her a nod before they drive away.
I walk up to her slowly. “Let go. My car is parked right over there.”
She glances at me. “If I go with you, are you gonna lecture me?”
“No.”
“Good.”
She walks past me toward the truck. Doesn’t look back.
I follow getting in the drivers seat and twisting the key.
“You left the key in the ignition?” she scolds.
“I was a bit preoccupied,” I counter with a smirk. “And I thought there wasnt going to be any lecturing on this ride.”
“I said you don’t get to lecture me, I didn’t agrees to counter terms.”
We make a U turn and head towards the main road.
The drive is quiet except for the soft tapping of Hopes fingernails against the door handle. She doing her best to look interested in the blur of old houses and empty streets that we
pass.
A ragged breath grabs my attention. I glance at her.
She’s breathing fast.
“Hope…” I venture.
“Keith… something’s wrong,” she says in a breathy voice.
Her wide eyes meet mine.
I stop the car on the side of the road.. “What are you feeling?”
Her skin’s flushed. She fidgets in her seat.
“I feel… weird.”
“From the drink?”
“I don’t know.”
Her eyes close. She leans her head back, then jerks upright again.
“Too hot. Too close.”
I reach out. “Hope-”
“Don’t touch me,” she gasps.
I yank my hand back. “Okay. It’s okay. I won’t touch you”
She digs her nails into her thighs. “This isn’t normal.”
My wolf whines. At some point they must have separated again.
“Not normal how?” I ask.

She shudders. “Like… I need something. Like I’m burning.” her face flushes. “And I’m aching.”
Her eyes dart down between her thighs.
Realization hits.
“An aphrodisiac.” I grip the wheel hard. “I’ll take you to the infirmary.”
“No,” she shouts. “No time.”
“You need help.”
She shakes her head. “Tak

It’s that word that has me moving. I get the car back on the road and gun the engine towards
Lincon.
Hope is counting on me, and I won’t let her down.
