REBORN My Second Life I Became The Villianess novel Nysa and Dario Valteri Chapter 124
On the route to Cipher Core, I stayed cautious, keeping a sharp eye on the rear-view mirror and the dark road behind us. No one was tailing us, but I wasn't taking any chances.
When we got to Cipher Core, the front security guard blocked the entrance, stepping out to walk in line with me as I made my way up the steps to the main doors. I pulled my keycard from my coat pocket and swiped it. The heavy glass doors clicked and swung open. The security detail followed me all the way to the private elevator bank.
"I'll head up alone," I said, turning to look at them. They nodded, holding their positions by the doors.
I stepped into the elevator, pressing the button for the top floor. When the doors slid open, I walked down the quiet, hallway straight to my office. I pulled off my trench coat, dropped it along with my handbag onto the back of my chair, and sank into my seat.
I grabbed my phone, unlocked the screen, and waited for Jax to text. In the meantime, I pulled up my terminal and went back to work, reviewing server security and financial logs. Around eleven into the night, my phone lit up. Jax was calling.
I answered right away. "What do you have?" I asked.
"I have her, she's in the basement," Jax said.
I smiled, leaning back against my desk. "Good, now I need a camera to make a video, and I need some tools, preferably a scalpel and knives. I'm upstairs in my office. I'll be down in a few minutes." I said.
"Five minutes," Jax said, and ended the call.
I left my phone on my desk, stood up, and walked out, locking my office door behind me. I headed straight for the service elevator that would take me down past the server floors and straight into the sub-basement. Once the elevator dinged and the doors slid open, Jax was waiting in the hallway.
"Do you have it?" I asked, stepping out.
Jax nodded, holding up a camera and a heavy metal case. "Yes, Boss."
He led the way down the corridor to the far end of the wall. Jax pushed open a hidden panel, revealing a heavy, reinforced steel door. I stepped up, punched the security code into the keypad, and the locks clicked back with a heavy thud. I pushed the door open and walked into the large, brightly lit room.
Caroline was tied to a heavy chair in the exact middle of the room. Her head drooped forward, yea, she was out cold. Jax handed me the small case. I popped the latch and slowly walked over to Caroline.
"Wake her up," I told Jax.
Jax moved in, tipping a full bottle of cold water straight over Caroline's head. Caroline startled awake, coughing and sputtering before she started screaming.
"Did she have her phone on her?" I asked.
Jax nodded. "Yes, but I got rid of it. Also, I found a surprise. She had a small tracker embedded on the side of her foot." he said.
I looked at him with raised eyebrows. "You checked for that?" I asked.
Jax smirked. "Of course, Boss. Wouldn't put it past anyone. I left it right where I picked her up, along with her phone."
I smiled. "Damn, you are worth the money. You can wait outside. I'll handle her myself." I said, Jax nodded and stepped out, closing the heavy steel door behind him.
Once I was alone with Caroline, I looked down at her and smiled. "What…what are you doing? Let go of me!" Caroline screamed, straining against the heavy ropes.
I ignored her screaming, flipped open the metal case, and pulled out a surgical scalpel. I held it up to the bright overhead lights, watching the blade gleam.
"What... stay away from me!" Caroline shrieked.
