Chapter 321 Gideon’s Evidence

Nora reminded her You’re the one who set up a livestream across the entire internet. It’s not just a press conference. Millions of people are watching, including every official police account out there. What did you think would happen?”

Cordelia’s face crumpled.

The only option she had left was to take someone important hostage and get away. As long as she could make it out of the country, she’d be safe.

She looked at Gideon, who was standing next to Constance. Constance was the weakest person in the room, and the one who mattered most.

“Gideon.” Cordelia gave him a look.

She’d raised Gideon. One look from her, and he’d know exactly what to do. As long as they had Constance as a hostage, she could get away!

Gideon looked at Cordelia with a complicated expression, but he didn’t move.

Cordelia waited a moment, then frowned. “Gideon Vance!” She kept shooting him meaningful looks.

Gideon asked her, “Dr. Blithe, is something wrong with your eye? Do you have a twitch?”

Cordelia nearly had a heart attack. She glared at him coldly. “Nothing’s wrong with my eyes. What are you just standing there for? Help me.” She kept giving him pointed looks.

Gideon was done playing games. “How exactly do you want me to help you, Dr. Blithe? By helping you take Constance Weston hostage?”

Cordelia was speechless.

“Dr. Blithe, did you know a man named Arthur Vance?”

Cordelia stiffened. She stared at him in shock. “What are you talking about?”

Gideon looked her straight in the eye. “You adopted me. You knew my father, Arthur Vance. You also know my name was originally just Gid. And you know exactly how my parents died, don’t you?”

The more Cordelia heard, the more she panicked. “Your parents were both dead. I felt sorry for you, so I took you in. You-”

Gideon cut her off. “You stole the azurewort from my dad and slapped a new name on it. Mutant orchid. How’s that working out for you?

“To get your hands on it, you bribed a nurse in my dad’s operating room. A patient died on the table, and it looked like my dad had broken protocol and killed him. Because of you, the patient’s family killed my dad, and then they killed my mom too.

“That left me all alone. Then you adopted me and got to bask in all the praise for being so kind and generous!

“You kept me as your student for more than 20 years. You let me look up to my parents’ killer like she was family! You let me fall in love with my enemy’s granddaughter! Think how heartbroken my parents must be in their graves!

“Cordelia Blithe, you should’ve just killed me too back then, instead of destroying me from the inside like this!”

Gideon was shaking with grief and rage. He wanted nothing more than to lunge at Cordelia and stab her to avenge his parents!

But he couldn’t. He was a doctor. His father had told him that a doctor’s hands were for saving lives, never for taking them.

He was the last of the Vances. He couldn’t land himself in prison and bring shame on his parents’ memory.

Cordelia’s face went gray, but she forced herself to stay calm. “Nora told you all this, didn’t she?

“Don’t listen to her nonsense. She’s lying to you.”

Gideon laughed and pulled out a disc. “This has recordings my dad left behind. Back then, he went to see you, but he never trusted you.”

Nobody used discs anymore. These days, everything was on flash drives, so this one was clearly a relic.

Gideon had come prepared, and he had someone play the disc right away. The footage was clearly old. The clothes, the hairstyles, and even the rooms all looked dated.

The first recording was a conversation between Arthur and Victor, filmed in a department head’s office at Cedar Falls Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

Victor was holding a small pot with an azurewort plant growing in it. He clearly stated his name, the date, the place, and the price. Then, he sold the azurewort to Arthur.

The time stamp on the footage showed it was from 20 years ago.

Next, Arthur, holding the azurewort, said he was going to see Cordelia, who was already making a name for herself as a famous doctor.

Everything after that had been filmed secretly, so the picture wasn’t very clear. But the audio was crystal clear, and the voices belonged to Cordelia and Arthur.

Cordelia wanted Arthur to sell her the azurewort, but he refused. He wanted them to research it together. In the end, they couldn’t come to an agreement.

Not long after that, Arthur died, and so did his wife. Then, Cordelia adopted their son and changed his name to Gideon.

Shortly afterward, Cordelia announced that she’d developed a mutant orchid that could treat early-stage cancer. She shot to fame, became known as a miracle healer, and earned the title of Master.

“Oh my God, she killed all those people!”
