Christopher looked relaxed and laid-back, his glasses resting on his nose bridge, which he looked through at her.

He acted like this place was his home.

The look he was giving Amelia made her feel exceedingly uneasy.

Evelyn was doing her homework at the coffee table. She stood up when she heard the door open.

“Mom…”

Amelia had warned Evelyn not to open the door to strangers

This time, however, her dad told her that her mom was feeling unwell and he had come with some tonic for her

mom.

Evelyn had thought that her dad would leave after she received the tonic, but he plopped down on the couch before she could say anything.

She couldn’t possibly chase him away, could she?

Amelia changed into her slippers and walked from the entrance. She looked at Evelyn and said, “Done with homework? Go to your room and get some rest.”

Evelyn pursed her lips and nodded. She packed her things and returned to her room.

She knew that her mom and dad had things to talk about that weren’t appropriate for her as a child to overhear.

After Evelyn returned to her room, Amelia looked at Christopher, who was still on her couch.

Christopher said, “I’m sorry. I should have given you a heads up first, but you didn’t answer my calls.”

Amelia instinctively checked her phone and saw some missed calls.

She didn’t know what she was feeling right now, except for the fact that a surge of frustration was boiling inside of her, and she didn’t have an outlet to vent.

She took a deep breath and said, “We’re already divorced. Whether I pick up your calls or not, you shouldn’t be

here.”

“I’ll leave once I see you drink the tonic,” Christopher said flatly as he looked at her. “Otherwise, I won’t be able to explain myself to Grandma.”

“Just deal with it yourself next time,” Amelia said with furrowed brows.

She had no idea how Christopher had the cheek to sit there and talk normally with her.

She had bumped into him poaching Nova Nine’s employees just yesterday, and here he was, pretending that nothing happened.

Christopher said calmly, “Grandma wants you to drink it for the good of your health. She’ll surely insist on regular checkups for you. Why don’t you come to the marit home and get it yourself next time?”

That thought only gave Amelia a headache. She looked at him darkly.

“Do you really think we can keep up appearances like this?

She thought it was impossible.

Yet, she was bound by the various terms and conditions in the divorce agreement.

He spoke so calmly, as though he was talking about insignificant domestic affairs.

Amelia furrowed her brows, not wanting to say a word further with him. He was always able to talk so calmly, in a way that pierced her heart.

Christopher saw Amelia remaining silent and put down his tablet.

“If you’re really a leader in Nova Nine, you need to strengthen your mental resilience.”

Amelia scoffed.

He snatched her people and wanted her to strengthen her mental resilience instead of getting mad.

He was crazy!
